Welding problem...

My cousin said he knew how to weld and came over with his dad's torch and stick welder. We cut out the rusted pans with the torch and he starts welding the new ones in, after he's done the one, (we just had time to get one in) he leaves I see all these holes around the edge, one as big as a dime that goes right through to the bottom from the welder. I have more holes now then I think the rusty floor pan did. What can I do to fix these? a few of the holes are up on the hump that the tranny sits under. Is there any easy way to fix these? its not a show car so I dont care about looks. Anything I can cover them with that will harden and plug the hole? I just want it so that no water gets in.

He should have at least acetylene welded them. Arc welding on sheet metal is damn near impossible without blowing holes in the metal.

I agree, about the only thing now would be to acetylene weld the holes up if you don't have access to a MIG.

Just get a low amperage rod and weld the holes up... Its easier with a MIG welder, but can be done with the stick welder. If all else fails get a map gas welding kit and braze them closed.

Its much easier to just tack weld the new pans in place and add new tacks to shorten the gaps until you get all the strength you need. Then use seam sealer to seal it all up. I'm assuming this is a driver, not a concourse...otherwise you'd probably have gotten it professionally done in the first place.

You could have the holes filled in with a mig welder....if its not a structural problem...fill them in with some JB weld.

Yeah, but I bet they would have MIG'd it if they had one to begin with. Doesn't sound like they have access to one. Even a little $199 dollar flux MIG is a great investment. My $600 gas Miller 130 has saved my butt many a time and has paid for itself many times over, and I'm just a hobbyist.
