This was the best prototype that was never built... can you imagine? The Aura of the 429 Boss back in a Mustang... Ford is saving this ace in the hole for a very special day...
Well Jack Roush had to have it. I've heard some say Ford let him display it. I don't believe that, the Roush gift shop isn't all that big. I think Jack Roush bought it because it's the best car. Why else would he have that with all his race cars?
More likely it's on loan from Ford. It's not that terrific of a car in my opinion. It's a neat concept, but it was built for a Chevy Ford Challenge, and it ended up breaking a lot. There are a lot better ways to make that kind of power.
Was told the issues they had were resolved. Tried to get as much info as I could while I was there. It had dual throttle bodies which became a nightmare. For years and years anything that needs to open up in a staggered pattern has always been an issue. Example-Chevy had the Crossfire Injection Corvette in 1982 and 1984 which I had the pleasure of working on when I was a Tech back in the day. The entire project was scrapped, it never worked correctly. They had the same issue with this Boss Mustang. This is a one off project so it had it's share of one off bugs. In the end the car performed really well. They could have gone an easier route like mentioned and made more power. They tried to be different which makes this car unique and more desirable in my opinion.
to say that that car is not very good would be just plain dumb, i would take that car over a new gt500 in a second, but i would have to scrap the wheels lol
