Went to the track after H/C/I

I went to the track last weekend and did absolutely horrible. My best pass was 14.45, which is slower than my stock motor, and my best trap speed was 103. I only made 3 passes though because a rocker arm came loose on the 3rd one at about 6300 rpm and I didnt want to push my luck because i had to drive my car home.

My car just isnt as lively as it should be with the combo i have. It runs pretty good but it just doesnt pull even in higher rpms. What can i do to my car to make it run like it should?

timeing? buddy of mine got a 83 with a 306 that was flat and wouldnt idle, found out that the timeing was way off. fixed it and now the car runs great.

Two words.... dyno tune. I was skeptical about the benefits until i saw it myself on my car. All my carb knowledge didn't mean jack crap once it was on the rollers with the wideband hooked up.

i've tried to convince you to get it tuned in like 4 of your other threads, haha... i understand you're in high school and money might be an issue, but your stock computer has no idea what the hell is going on right now, get a chip burned and a tune and all of your drivability/power issues will disappear, trust me (that is, if you have a good tuner :nice:)

edit: i also don't see a fuel pump upgrade or adjustable fuel pressure regulator in your sig, what's the story on those?

Well, you didn't mention your 60' times, what did they look like? Trap speed is a better indication if the car is faster, the ET will come with practice.

My thoughts...
Although your intake and heads are on the big size for a stock bore/stroke, it should really open up as you get into the RPMs, a dyno tune would be the next thing to do and probably yield you some more power and trap speed.

yeah get a tune and dyno. my 351 i put together was acomplete dog! i took it to my buddies put just 10* in it and man what a fun ride! we checked the timming and it was 0. if you get a SCT chip i have a guy here who can get you close if you mail it to him, tell him everything in your combo and he will do a BASE tune on it for you. This guy really really knows his stuff!his company is called HP ranch and his name is john. most of you probably heard of him from the mags and if i remember right he was the first one with a 1,000 HP fox body.peace

haha i know man but i just dont have the money to get it tuned right now.
it does have a fancy fuel pump but i have no idea what it is.
you can hear it pretty good when you turn the key on.
would the regulator make that much of a difference?

oh and my 60 foot times suck too because the clutches in my rear end are going out.

knowing the lph of your fuel pump is important in knowing if you have enough pump to keep up with the fuel demand of your injectors/combo at WOT... the noise at KOEO (key on engine off) isn't a good indicator of whether or not you have an aftermarket, higher lph fuel pump, as even the stock mustang pump is relatively loud at KOEO... the fuel pressure regulator is also pretty important and vital to a good tune in my opinion, any tuner worth anything will want to dial in your fuel pressure, especially to avoid what is called "pressure creep" at idle caused by a high lph fuel pump

more info is needed for a more accurate diagnosis, but a tune and some traction would more than likely do wonders for you :nice:

hate to thread jack but i feel the same way, with no track times to prove it. my car isnt as beefed as yours but i have a 12/13second mods which feels slower then the bone stock 94gt aod i had????
does anyone think a maf swap will help gain some horses, or should i look for a sd based tune? i had my timing bumped way about 16* up but i could never get the car to start without a jump box(to advanced) when it was like that it ran good. but it didnt idle normal and again it wouldnt start without a jump/charge. now it will crank up anytime its at about the normal 12* which it acts the most stockish but i really dont think she is fast....i have no money or interest in any go fast mods but getting the most out of mine would be nice....

Tuning is key. But you will only need a chip if the car doesn't like being tuned. It means that you have to force it to be tuned. Something like that. I'm not the best person to explain that though.
