Tonight I went to the track for the first time.Overall I think I did pretty bad.
In the 1/8 mile my best time was 10.2919 @ 73.48mph with a 2.4 60 ft and a reaction time of .5641.I did win all of my races but It was all against ricers which ran high 10's to low 11's.
The car I was racing was a 94 gt auto vert with 4:10's,magnaflow exhaust,x pipe, pulleys,CAI,octane booster and no tire and jack. One of my questions is when I got around 60-65mph on either 2nd or 3rd gear(don't remember)
The car went to 5000 rpm's and it stayed there and wouldn't shift for about 3 seconds then it finally shifted and with the o/d off the car hit 5000 rpm's and stayed at 5000 rpm's and wouldn't shift it just revved. What is the problem? could this be from the 4:10's?Someone told me a shift kit will help
the problem.Will it?

Also could someone please tell me if 10.2919 was in the 1/8 what would be my 1/4 time?

Thanks in advance.

That's almost impossible to accurately calculate, especially with the quirky shifting you described. The reason for that is you would have to take into effect the cars power curve and such.

dont you need a shift kit and something to control the shift points on an AODE car(chip) with 4.10's?? otherwise it wont shift right??

Correct, more specifically you can get the Baumannator trans. control system (TCS) to adjust your shift points. But there are other options also.

A 94 gt with those mods should be running around mid 9's in the 1/8?
I was running what v-6 stangs were running in the 1/8 which means my car probably would of ran a low 16 sec. 1/4.Now thats slower then stock.Do all 94-95 gt auto's get this shifting problem after getting 4:10's?

I'm hopeing to get this shifting problem fixed so I can go back to the track.I sure in hell won't go back to the track till I get this problem fixed.

So a shift kit will solve the problem correct?or will I need something else?
I don't wanna spend too much money so I'll probably go with the cheapest option.

On 94-95 Mustangs the AODE is partially controlled by the EEC. So, I don't think just a 'shift kit' is the answer. Order up a chip and have your shift points corrected for the mods you have. Most chip companies have extensive knowledge of what different mods do to a car and can burn a chip to fully utilize your mods. This would be the cheapest to do if you don't plan on any more performance mods to the engine. If you have plans to do more mods then you would need to send the chip back to adjust for the mods you made to your setup. The more expensive route is to go with a programmer like the PMS and twEECar and AEM units. They will grow with the car no matter what you do to mod it.

why was your 60' time so bad? :( what tires were you running? your 60' should be 1.8-2.0.

I'm running 55' tires in the rear that are getting almost bald with less then a 1/4 inch of thread left.I launched my car
with a little spinning of the tires. The said part was freakin hondas were getting the same 60' times as me and I have 4:10's.Also stock to lightly modded hondas were staying with me pretty much the whole way down the track because of the sorry shifting.Every shift went to 5000 rpm's and stayed there for 2-3 seconds then shifted. Then on 3rd gear it didn't wanna shift at all.Have you ever hit your rev limiter.Well thats how it was on 3rd gear.

Can you guys give me some advice for the next time I got to the track?
Should I drop the tire pressure in the rear tires?Should I do a burnout?
any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Here's the closest timeslip I have scanned... I'm on the right.

60ft is almost as bad as yours. :nice:
1/8 mph is 73mph like yours. :nice:
1/8 ET is close.

I don't spin at all off the bottle. On the bottle I can hit the juice a foot off the starting line and they'll only spin a few feet.

I'm hoping a good stall will fix this. If you are spinning, your bald tires won't ever give you a good time. Get some better ones. My Essenzas are great for street tires... they need a little heat though.

If overdrive is off, it won't shift, so you had to of been thinking of 2nd right? It probably seemed like it stayed there for a long time, but 3 seconds X 2 shifts would be more than half of your total run. My car used to take FOREVER to climb from 5 grand to 5200 - that called a stock intake but I also had to manual shift to keep it from going to the next gear. You probably have some tranny issues and a shift kit will help a ton if you don't have one. I've heard bad things about 4.10s and AODE's but can confirm it as I have 3.73s.

i see what the problem is now. the 55 foot tires are adding too much weight!

try using a 55 series tire and see if that helps. :D

also, i'm sure you noticed this behavior on the street. why didn't you get the car working correctly BEFORE you went to the track?

by having such a bad setup with your rearend and trans, you made the ricers look fast. you didn't represent stangs in a good way little Cobra. :notnice:

Actually low 10's are pretty fast if you're running 55 ft tires.Try doing that in your car :p

As for my car I took it to a friend of mine who works on performace cars.He checked it out for me and said the tranny is going bad. That is why it wasn't shifting right under WOT and why I was running slow times.I'm gonna get my transmission rebuilt with all new parts including a new higher stall torque converter.

No, I didn't notice the transmission was going bad before I went to the track. It drove fine and shifted fine under normal accleration and driving.
Only under WOT did I notice something was wrong.

Anyhow,I'll be back to the track in 2 weeks after my tranny is done.
Then we'll see how the ricers do against me :D

Ricer1:"hey guys look there's that slow ass Rustang that we almost beat a few weeks ago"

Ricer2:"oh yeah that is him."I told you that intake gives you 70 hp to the ground." "None of you guys thought I could hang with a rustang." "Now that I got my new racing wing on I should be able smoke him this time." "I'm gonna go ask him to race right now."

Ricer1:"Make sure you bet him money this time".

Ricer2:"hey you with the mustang" you wanna run"? "I bet you 50 bucks I'll smoke your azz."

ME:"Sure.let's go".

Ricer2:"Pop your hood open"......"Damn I didn't know you had a supercharger".

ME:"It's a Cold air intake"

Ricer2:"I got one too but mine's bigger." "Now lets race!"

(So with my rebuilt tranny and my new torque converter,I beat him pretty
bad. After the run he looks very suprised. He pays me the money and is
speechless.)

Ricer1:"what the hell happend you got smoked."

Ricer2:"He must of had NOS." "I'll get him next week once I get some more stickers."

(None of this really happend to me but was made up as a joke as what is gonna happen when I return in 2 weeks.)

Peace.
