Went to the track tonight

Man our local track sucks. Not many fast cars to lay down good rubber, no VHT preparation, and a whole gaggle of ricer kiddies who track water all the way to the starting line.

But I did get a new personal best. Here are the complete timeslip details for my last run of the evening. Even with it 65* outside, I was still getting a lot of pinging in fourth gear. Grrrr....

I think I will probably not go back again this year. I couldn't use full throttle until I was firmly into 2nd gear (and I still kept blowing off the tires going into 2nd). And my T-5 hates me. It was grinding a bit going into 3rd (only when I try to put it into 3rd at 6000 RPM ). And on the way home it was doing what it usually does after I abuse it at the track -- grind grind growl growl, funny sounds coming from it. Not quite sure what is making all the weird sounds, but it usually goes away after about a day .

So in the Spring, I plan traction. And a TKO, because I don't think the T-5 is going to take many 5000 RPM clutch dumps...

If you look on your dyno graph, it goes lean up stairs. Thats the cause of your pinging most likely. That trap speed doesnt corrolate with your dyno numbers but you had some issues. Are you using any kind of tuning device? If not, i'd suggest adding some fuel pressure and hopefully the eec wont adapt those changes out. I'd say 3-5psi will be good. A set of drag radials are perfect for you. I used to cut 1.8's all day with them.

I have a tweecer, so I can make adjustments to the higher end. I did add back about half a point of A/F on all of the high load values (any RPM) from what I had it set to on the dyno. I think it might help a little also if I can get my filter into the fender -- after idling for a bit to get up to the line, it's sucking in air at over 100* from the engine bay. It cools off a little going down the track, but not fast enough.

Hey Dave

You'll be in the 12's with no probs when you get those pesky little details sorted out.

Very frustrating to know how close you are to your track goal when little things like you mention seem to thumb their nose at you.

I've wanted to get back to the dyno and make a few runs down the strip myself.

I am actually happy with last night's results. I consistently saw two to three mph faster than before, which is good. The rest is driver .

How about this -- I will just blame it on the track, instead of the fact that last night was the first time I've been to the track this year . My last run of the evening was against a 2003 Cobra with a 2.75 pulley -- he only got a 12.929 @ 107.44.

Not to mention the track workers spreading water outside of the box. Seemed like every jackass/****tard was using the water box.

I think the funniest thing I saw all night was a ricer Honda with the rear tires in the box. With his e-brake firmly engaged and one front tire spinning he dragged his motionless rear tires halfway to the start line. Looked like a dog crawling after a bone with two gimp legs

Ignore the pinging. That's an excuse for a new motor.

They say 2-tenths for every 1-tenth in the 60'. Get it down to 1.8 and you are solidly into the 12's. The car's running great, and it's evident by the times.

That was definitely irritating. I tried to squeeze by as close to the guardrail as possible, but I still ended up running the passenger side tires through the puddle. I wish the workers would have tried harder to keep the water contained.

Thankfully 5.0 shortblocks are cheap! Yesterday on the way home I saw a puff of some kind of smoke or steam coming from in front of the car, on the drivers side. No idea what it was, I couldn't figure it out. Just to be sure, I did check this morning to make sure the radiator is under *normal* pressure .
