Dynod the car it sucked! 309/336 hell i dont know something like that?Gues i have to low of compression to make power. So now what power adder new pistons? What!? Man this sucks i was hopeing for mid to high 300's at the wheels on the mustang dyno :( peace

Wahhhh. Some of us aren't even close to breaking the 250-horse mark, and you're crying about having 309? :p

Seriously, though, unless you've got some kind of stroker motor or you're BADLY in need of a tune, that sounds like a pretty good amount of power. What exactly have you done to the motor?

Motor specs:1974 351w 40 over dished pistons (not sure of the CC) AFR 185 58cc heads lunati 499 lift cam flat tappet. 1.6 crane gold race roller rockers 42# injectors comp push rods accufab 75mm T.B trick flow R 75mm intake LMAF 90MM SCT chip BBK L/T's mac prochamber O/R mid pipe SLP loud mouth 2 cat back. I'm not sure of the comp ratio but the tunner was thinking it was about a 8 to 8.5-1 thats the whole reason i went with the 58cc heads to make up for the dished pistons to raise the comp. It was a mustang dyno my A/F was 14 (i think)? I'm so pissed and bummed i dont have a clue where the sheet is? I think it's in the truck so as soon as i find it i'll post it.What exactly do you mean by what did i use to tune the car with? I ended up with 12* (pill out) timming thats all it would take i guess from the low comp,it didnt ping or anything but the tuner said it wouldnt take anymore even with more oct fuel due to my comp. Yeah it is low! I dont know if i'm thinking wrong on this thought? But (for example) evilssp's car with a 347 351w heads his cam and carb made high 3's and 400 TQ at the wheels! So his engine is a 347cubic in correct? Well mine is a 351 40 over so what 359 360 cubic inch? So well i have more cubes so i should make as much if not a touch more should of i?They say "theres no replacement for displacement" peace

I'm wondering what in the world the tuner is talking about. Low compression will allow much more timing. 12 degrees is pretty low. 8-8.5 to1 compression is pretty low. With aluminum heads, you should be able to run a LOT of timing. I personally think you have the wrong cam as well. And you SHOULD NOT be at 14-1 on a full throttle pull unless you feel like melting pistons. 42's are big enough, so I don't know why you have no fuel. Either a **** tune(possible seeing as what else was told to you), insufficient fuel supply, mass air not matched to injectors,etc...
Why did you get dished pistons anyway? Going forced induction?

well I have a 331 vic jr heads and intake 8.5 to 1 compression and my car put down 300 to the wheels as well, with 13 lbs of boost it pusts down 550 on a easy tune. Maybe you just need some boost. drive it for a while love the tq and wait. maybe you can do DIY turbo. or something

Compression is one thing, but remember my combo is only 9.25:1...not high by any means, the stock 302s are around 9:1. I also have dished pistons and by heads are 60cc.

If you have AFR 185s then either something is jacked up with your tune, or my heads must be BAMF'ers because i find it impossible to believe that ported iron heads could flow as well as those AFR's.

I think one big thing holding you back is that cam. You only have .499 lift, that's not gonna make a ton of top end especially on a 360ci engine with AFR 185s. What's the duration look like? In fact what are cam specs altogether? 360ci and nice heads need a healthy duration and a good amount of lift to make good power, especially with that Trick Flow R intake. You've got the cubes and heads and intake, but not enough cam IMO.

Speaking of the cam...being a flat tappet, was it broke in correctly? You can't just stick it in and run it...if you do without proper break in you'll risk wearing off the lobes.

TKO 3550 with a billet steel FRPP fly wheel and spec stage 2. my car rolls easily so i doubt it's the brakes. What comp is your motor it's a 302 correct? peace

john:p

my motor is a stock bottom end 302, i have the trickflow twisted wedges that are milled down to 58CC combustion chambers to get my compression close to 10.5:1, they also have a bowl blend Jay Allen did to them himself

i agree with 85_SS on this one, when you said you had a .499 lift cam it was a major red flag... you have the cubic inches and the flow potential with the AFR 185s to make some serious power, but your cam is mismatched... if i were you i'd get in touch with one of the custom cam grinders and tell him your entire setup, you won't be disappointed, jay allen can get you a cam for around $300 that will make your combo perform at it's peak potential

Well iam going to call all the major cam grinders not just one to get everyones beleifs. Here what my cam card from lunatti say's if it's to confusing i'll scan it tomorrow and post it instead,i dont understand why the hell they (lunatti) told me this would be a good cam for me when i called them to begin with and told them everything i had in my combo and they recomended this cam.
Lobe seperation 112
EX closes -2.5 EX opens 49.5
In opens 1.5 In closes 37.5

Lift at valve .499 in .522 ex
rocker ratio 1.600 in 1.600 ex
valve adjustment .000 in .000 ex
Duration at .050" tappet lift 219in 227ex
advertised duration 262in 268 ex
this is all greek to me so i have no clue how to read cam cards?
strtrcr50 Trust me this guy that tuned my car knows his tunes i watch him get some really nice numbers from what they brought there car in with one day for 6 hours. several guys from around here had excellent results as well. He's the ed curtis jay allen of tunning.I'm positive the injecters are matched to the MAF and i'm usinga 255 pump so it's there to. I have dished pistons cause thats what the block came with and thats the reasoning i went with the 58cc heads HOPING to raise the compression since the pistons are dished. Here is a pic of my dyno sheet

85_SS_302_Coupe right yours is 9.25:1 and a 347 cubic in correct?????? well mine is 360 cubic inch.Your heads are 60cc mine are 58cc so mine would be more compression correct? I dont know my comp of the pistons so thats why i went to 58cc heads. When i did my piston to valve clarence check it didnt even touch the tootsi roll!Unless lunatti themselfs told me the incorrect way to break in the cam...then yes i did it correctly.Check it out yourself http://www.hpranch.com/ peace

That cam is super small for that combo.....weak lift.....weak duration, I would call up some cam companies or have one custom ground for your combo. And for compression, generally speaking 2ccs will get you .1 compression. Having an unknown compression ratio it's hard to figure things out too though...for all you know you could have 7.5 or 8:1 compression

Well, looking at your dyno pull, you are not running at 14 to 1. From what you can see of it, it looks ok. Maybe you are running ridiculously low compression and that's causing the problem, but even at 9 to 1, you should be able to run a lot more timing than 12 degrees. Do you happen to know what the total timing is? And as I also said, i too think you have the wrong cam. My cam I'm putting in my 302/306 is a lot bigger than that. It is a blower cam, but still..

Sounds about right to me for that cam and low compression. I wouldn't even put that cam in a mild 302. You should be looking for something closer to .600" lift. Unless you're planning on going with boost, compression is basically free hp. There is pretty much no drawbacks to running up to 10.5:1 compression, other than putting 93 octane in it. I think a lot of people would be surprised how much of a difference compression will make.

The tune worries me as well. I really hope it's not 14:1 at wide open.
