I am looking at getting an amp to power my 2 8" JL audios, and I also am going to put some 6x9 or 6x8 speakers in the rear in place of the factory speakers. I already have replaced the door speakers, but just have a small amp powering those. Right now I have a 400w California Profile amp powering the JL's. I have had the amp for about 10 years now and I have had no problems with it at all. I just want a little more sound, by adding some better 6x8 or 6x9 than the factory speakers, and adding some power to them. What kind of amp should I go with.. I assume I need a 4 channel amp to power 4 speakers? I'm not looking to go thumping through the neighborhood so everyone can hear me. I just want it to sound nice inside the car. I only want to spend a couple hundred bucks at the most on an amp also. Anyone have any opinions as to what I need to use to set this up?

I have just 40wx2 amp running the door speakers, the 400w California amp running the 2 subs. I should get another 40-60w amp to run just the 6x9's? Or run the door speakers and the rear 6x9's off the 40-60wx4 amp? Right now I just hve the small amp under the seat... would I be able to keep a bigger amp under the seat or will it get too hot? I don't feel like rewiring everything AGAIN to be able to put the amp in the trunk.

well you have 2 choices like you said, another 2 channel or a 4 channel to run all your speakers, both would be good, but i prefer a 4 ch,less wiring(power, ground, remote)I dont know if they have built in low/hi pass x-overs on the profile amps, but if it does you can adjust your frequency roll off so your fronts can have more mid/highs and your rears can be more mid/low without distorting. You would need to use a "Y" for your RCA to split the signal to the 2nd amp or 4 ch.It shouldnt run hot at 4 ohms or even 2 ohms if its 2 ohm stereo stable.

When you say 40-60w x4.... is the wattage RMS? What do I need to look for when I look at amps? I think my 400w California is max power.. 400x1 or 200x2. I was 16 when I got the amp, and I didn't know much about amps and 400w seemed like enough to power what I had so that's what I got. I didn't pay attention to rms or anything like that. So just by reading 60w x 4, to me that's only 60w to each sub when I have 200w to each sub right now. I want a little more power to the subs than that. Unless what you're talking about is completely different than I understand. I'm just curious. I'm don't know much about this stuff... I know how to do the wiring and all that stuff, I just don't know much about the ins and outs of amps, whats good and whats not, etc. I have just always been told that I want to get something with mosfet power supply. That's why I chose the California amp at the time.. it had mosfet power supply and it was fairly cheap. I got it about 10 years ago and it still works perfectly and I have never had a problem with it. Now it seems that amps are crazy expensive and there are brands left and right, and everyone has a different opinion on whats good/bad.

That sounds like a good idea. I can take out the little amp under the seat I have now, and put a new amp down there. I already have RCA's going under the seat, with power and remote wires. All I would have to do is track a set of wires to the trunk for the 6x8's. I will look into amps and see what I can find in a price range I'm looking for. I will post my options on here and see what might be best. I'm not looking to spend over $150 for an amp... I still have to buy 6x8 also so. Thanks for the help so far!

The AP 1040 is 149 from Crutchfield and their a bit higher then everybody else,so spending less then 150 shouldnt be a problem.

Is there anything wrong with Sony amps? I found one for around $100 bucks thats 60x4 I believe. This would work well for me and the price is decent. But if Sony amps are crap I will spend a little more to get a better one. Just curious. Like I said, when I bought mine about 10 years ago I was just told to get one with Mosfet power supply. I think I paid $110 for my 400w Profile amp and it has been a champ!

Hey all. I just ordered a Profile California amp to match my existing amp. I just got a refurbished one from Profile, 1 year warranty. It's the 440SX 400w 4 channel amp.. will give me 50Wx4 so it should be a good addition to what I have. I do have one simple question. With the remote wire, can I splice into the remote wire for my other amp and just run a wire to this new amp? Or do I have to run a completely new remote wire from the headunit?

yes,you can use the same remote, any more splices into it i would recommend a relay to turn more things on off of the same remote.

Can I also do this with the power wire? Could I run my existing power wire that I have to my 400 watt amp, now. However, run like a Y splitter and run power to each amp? Or do I need to run a separate power cable from the battery to each amp? I'm just curious as to whether you can do that or not. I have no problem running a new wire, was just curious to see if it was something I could do or not.
