I have 16" ponys at the moment and I purchased 4 225/55HR-16 Fuzion HRi tires that I was going to replace my current dry rotting tires with. (New tires are sitting in my garage at the moment.)

Tax returns look like they are going to allow for a wheel purchase (as long as it stays around $600) but since I just bought those tires I'd like to stay with 16" wheels.

Besides the Cobra Rs that everyone and their mom has, what are my other options?

Your options aren't that great. You could buy 16" chrome Ponies. HANDS DOWN THE BEST 16" Mustang wheel ever!!!I would go to 17's and get the Pony R wheels. Same Pony look with bigger 17X8 wheels. They come 4 lug or 5 lug if you swap the car later instead. They come white, silver and chrome.

Years ago there was a huge market for 16s....not so much anymore. Tires are even starting to get thin on selection. I looked for 16s for my Merkur and there really wasn't any options...

That said, i've always like 16s actually...i think they have a really good ratio of tire to rim and still have that muscle car look. If you can get a nice meaty tire on 17s i like that too but i can't stand the thin side wall rubber band tires on the bigger rims. My buddy used to have the ROH ZS's in 16 and they looked awesome.

Those Fuzion HRI have not proved to be good tires to us. We sell them and we see an average af about 25K on them. Now those were on different style cars. The ZR's should not of been much more should of gone with those, we see them holding up much better. Just an opinion, however we sell tons of them due to the price.
Sorry now on the wheels, stay with the pony's or gor with the chromies.

hmm

Damn, that is not good to hear.

I read lots of positives about them online before I went with them. Well, I got them months ago so it's too late to do anything with them now but keep them.

I wanted a halfway decent "cheap" tire because I tend to burn through tires because... well it's fun. They were $85 each including shipping.

Anyone know how much the 16" Ponys weight?

ROH's if you can grab them are the only way to go.
there are some other choices but then you start to move into the 17" territory.
I personally like the 4 lug saleen replicas and 03 cobra replicas
