im just curious as to how much horsepower a chp block..from a 331 stroker gt kit ca take...i know the stock block is only good to 500 hp...whats different about the chp block? im planning 12 pounds of boost with everything in sig...how much h.p. will i see....and will it last with a good tune?? because my 150,000 mile stock bottom end just took a large shhiitt on me!!!!

I would say that the rods and block have about the same hp limit. About 500 hp. As far as I know, the CHP blocks are no different than the stock block from the factory. I know someone who went mid 10's on the stock block for over 2 yrs. Maybe invest in a custom chip and tuning. It may save your engine and be worth some hp too. Many say that the better the tuning, the longer the block will last. Good luck.

I agree, better tuning will mean a longer life. But its still a crap shoot. The blocks from both CHP and DSS arent that much better than the stock block. If your looking to push the envolope, you need to invest in a block with 4 bolt mains.

Its not even the 4 bolt mains that are the issue. Its the actual casting of the stock block. The valleys are weak and will crack. It doesnt matter who machine the block, its crap. Admittedly, a well prepped block is better, but I wouldnt push it on a stock block. Oh wait, I did, lol. To the tune of 625 horses, lol. Your better off just getting a 351 if price is an issue and you want to make power.

Engine Might have to get a Dart block but don't want to and if I do, then 363 instead of 331. Thoughts on what I've already bought so far.......
