I was changing out my rear shocks and noticed these smaller shocks that are mounted sideways, I guess to help with traction. I took them off and they are roasted so i need new ones, but when i typed in the part number on motorcraft.com, I couldnt find anything. I dont even know what they are called so I cant call somewhere and say I need these because they wont know what im talking about. I think they might be called stabilizer shocks or something. Anyone know for sure and where I might be able to get new ones?

They are called "quad shocks" around here. Not sure what they would call them in the parts stores though..

I've seen parts stores around here call them "axle dampeners" or something.

I had one on my car that went bad way back in roughly 1991.The Ford dealer wanted like $250.00 for a new one back then.I told the dealer to keep it and called up a local Toronto area Mustang performance shop that also kept good stock parts off of cars they had modified.I got one for $20.00 cash that was like new.Try some used Mustang parts places or performance shops to see if they have one lying around.

I believe quad shocks or axle dampers are common terms to describe them.

If you replace the lower control arms, you can ditch them completely.

When I replaced mine a lot of auto stores did not know what I was talking about when I referred to them as quad shocks. I forget what they were called though. Just search around, im sure you'll find it.

The quad shocks are designed to prevent wheel hop and axle windup. Most guys that have aftermarket LCAs just ditch them since the LCAs take care of the wheel hop issue.

I am gonna try to get some at work tomorrow, (ford motorcraft warehouse) but the thing is I couldnt find replacement ones on motorcraft.com, so I dont understand why they wouldnt carry them or make them if they are part of the suspension on stock mustangs from 79-04?
