Wheels-Tires What Are The Widest 20" Front Tires

Hi all,

What are the widest 20" tires I can run on TSW Nurburgring Wheel 20"x10" Matte Bronze, 275/35 or 285/35. I plan on a 1.25" drop with coil-overs.
I have tried finding a definitive answer, no luck. Thought I would try here. TIA.

I have a 20x10" wheel on my car with 275/35/20 tires. Personally I think they fit and look great, with that being said I can imagine that the 285 will fit. There is a surprising amount of room in the front even with the 10" wide wheels.

It's not lowered yet, but will be soon...

If you want to check out 'the bulge'....

That will show what the tire will look like mounted on the rim, cross sectioned.

Pretty interesting website... It tells me that you can't put a 275/60/15 on a 12" wide wheel though, not that it's easy but it can be done

The 275/35/20 fits the front of the car perfect. I won't NOT go wider than that on a 10" wide rim.

Between the wheel and the shock body I have about 1/2 - 3/4", just enough to slide a finger between them, which is kinda my minimum clearance for wheels / tires / other components.

Here is the test fit on the wheels.....20x10's, 40mm offset, 7.0" backspacing...they fit, but I would not be comfortable even a hair wider....

Out back you're good. This is the same rim and there is plenty of room. I'd have no issue putting an 11" wide rim and a 305 or 315 back there...

And, all mounted up with 275/35/20's all the way around....

Thx 4 the info silver. I changed my mind AGAIN and plan to run a 275/32-20 front and 295/35-20 rear Michelin Pilot super sports on HRE 20-9.5 and 20-10.5 rims. Haven't decided whether I want the black or bronze rims.

That'll be money right there. Are you doing 35 or 30 in the rear? That 35 might be tall.

It will be expensive; $2800 for the Black HREs or $3600 for the Bronze HREs, and about $1400 for the tires, so $4200 to $5000 for the set. OUCH .

I guess you guys always wash by hand. I go through the brushless wash once in a while and my 255/35/19's just fit any wider I bet the wheels and tires get scratched up

Any thoughts on 285/35-20's fitting on 20x10's with stock ride height?

Thanks Boss. Not sure how I missed that. I'm looking at Nitto NT01's and 285/35zr20 is the only real option for out front.

Thanks Silver for the great info. Maybe I can find some wheels with a hair more backspacing or offset.

Damn those huge pp brakes. If I could fit 18's for track days I would have many more options.

You could "probably" fit a 285 if you droped back to a 9.5" wheel. The 10" wide wheel puts the lip of the wheel really close to the body of the front struts and if the sidewall sticks out any farther you're REALLY gonna be pushing it and the width is measured at the sidewall, not the tread, and that is the area that gets closer to the strut body.

I might go 285 on the 9.5" wheel, but I wouldn't on these 10's.

I'm surprised at the number of wheels I'm interested in that don't have 20x9.5 and 20x10 to fit a Mustang. I might just get a pair of 20x10 wheels and tires and see if they fit up front.

If you go with the 20x10's, 40mm offset and 7" backspacing clears with about 1/2" - 3/4" between the edge of the wheel and the body of the strut. That's what I have on mine with the 275/35/20's.

I'm going with Nitto NT01's and 285/35ZR20 is my only real option. I hope it ends up working If I could tweak the offset or backspacing a few mm I should be fine. Just hunting for wheels that fit.

If worse comes to worse, there's no reason you could't put a small wheel spacer in there. I know asummit has them as small as 3/16" thick.

Just remember, once you mount 'em, you own 'em.
