That doesn't sound fun to me at all. I loved scouting around, meeting one or two random people and teaming up with them to attack enemy camps and such. It was very difficult for me to even find a group of 10 or more to get in with to try anything big.
I once met another player and we wound up as a team for almost 2 weeks. We had similar time to game and worked very well together. We wiped out various groups of enemies over several territories.

What burned me about WoW was that the guys from work who got me in to it, by the time I worked up to where I could maybe join their group, they had moved on to something else! Sheesh.
Oh... Does Classic or Vanilla or whatever still feature Barrens Chat with endless Chuck Norris jokes? It just can't be WoW without that!
Lisa and I played without really researching into the game. We played Alliance side on an 85% Horde server. It was stupid, but we didn't know.
We played together almost all the time, but eventually we started meeting 2 or 3 "regular" players. We didn't get into a guild till well past terminal, but at the time, there weren't many/any leveling guilds, so it didn't matter. It WAS fun getting together and doing things that, normally, you'd never get to do. The biggest problem we had was getting ganked . . . constantly. On an 85% enemy PVP server, it was tough to run instances because Horde just guarded all the entrances. Even running around the world was hazardous. Crap, we even lost Stormwind causing a server reboot . . . TWICE!
What made WoW tons of fun is also what broke it for us. When we hit terminal, we eventually got into raiding. We did pretty good, and Lisa eventually got a rare toon geared out (not many shadow priests back then). People wanted her, and to make things better, I had two tanks built. We raided some in vanilla and HEAVY in BC. By the time Lich King hit, raiding was a full-time job, and we just burned out. We play for fun, now.
Every once in a while, you'll still see Chuck Norris jokes! LOL!
Blizzard has "Classic" servers running, and the people there are A LOT more friendly than retail, but again, it's tough playing, and the population isn't like retail. There's no cross server LFG . . . or LFG at all, so doing instances is REALLY tough. If a group of 4 or 5 ever started together, they would have a ball. But, the people playing classic are generally great.
