I shelled my trans last nite at the track and was wondering what c4's you guys use and why? I was thinking of using the TCI Pro rebuild kit and re-using my stall. Will this be able to support my new found nitrous power? I ran 7.70 @ 87 last nite before the trans bit the bullet on the big end. Thanks guys!

P.S. 7.70 @ 87 was my 1/8th mile time.

I had a stock rebuilt C4 with a shift kit and a stall. It made its 250ish passes. I would like to buy the parts and build it myself again just able to withstand more power. I'm on about a 700 dollar budget.

Hardened imput shaft, welded front drum (a actaul aftermarket hardned one would be better though, but they arent cheap and like said, probably over kill),Kevlar bands, new rebuild kit with Alto Red's,and go with a new PA or Dynamic servo and a billet cover. The big thing is decieding on the valve body,I would probably look for a used trans break valve body.

I dont really like the TCI stuff form experiance (a bad one at that...) but I guess there ok.And good used parts are fine!

I ordered the TCI kit and valve body along with a PA servo kit! So hopefully this one holds up.

I'm building one right now for the 06 season. I raced an AOD last year with no issues other than it's heavy with lots of rotating mass. Mine is a stock 1968 C4 but with the Alto Reds, and the six pinion planetary gear and billet servo. I would like to use a new valve body but I don't know if a 70's model will work in a 68 year model. I am still debating over the hardened input shaft. So far I dumped about $500 into the transmission.

Well,I would of gotten the imput shaft befor the 6 pinion planetary.TCI makes a slightly cheaper 4 pinion planetary, but again,I dont consider there stuff as good as the PA stuff. But its still better than stock.

Its should work on the 68' I think it will depened more if its case fill or pan fill.

67-69 VB's are different than the 70 and up's. I tried this last year with a 69 C4, and it wouldn't work. Different VB's. Now I have 3 C4-C5's ready for this year after popping the 69 last year.

Does the input shaft break before the planetary gear during a hard launch? I know the PA transmission's have a 5 and 6 clutch discs on the forward clutch pack, but they did not say how many are in the reverse/high clutch pack. What parts actually are the most bang for the buck?

Yea,the early one were known a C3's,and I though the only differance was the bolt pattern on the pump (bell housing).

And IIRC there was a differance in pump shaft spline amount,I believe theres a 24 (early) and a 26 (later).

Clutches,bands,valve body,and servo w/ cover.

The imput shaft is more likly to break than the planetary, but I dont think the 300hp and under you probably dont need either.Your over that power, and I would say both, but If I had to choose one, I would take the imput shaft.

Another thing, use a good cooler.....and get one of thous in line trans filters

The pre 70 models have a 24 spline input shaft, 70 and above are 26 spline. The pre 70 models also had a different VB as well as pump. At least this is what my tranny expert tells me..lol

Ok, we tried it last night and a 70+ VB will work with a 67-69 C4. There is a slight modification that needs to be done but it will work. Don't ask me what that modification is, I'm not a transmission guy..lol.

Can you get your transmission guy to post the answer? I would really like to know.

I'm having mine rebuilt by a local shop right now. They are very reputable and will build to your needs plus give one year warranty. Mine will hold 700+ rwhp when done.

Might I ask who's doing it?

We had a very bad experiance with a local shop and a C4 (actualy two C4's,both broke a combined total of 14 times-and cost nearly $4500)

Transmission Physicians in Tampa just south of Gandy on Dale Mabry. Fernando is a very knowledgeable guy and warranties his work.

I just got mine back tonight and will start the T5 to C4 swap tomorrow.
