Right, but not all of the cams say "hydraulic roller", some just say "hydraulic", and many of those come with flat tappet lifters. As of now, the TF cam is one that'll work for me, is cheap, and has a good profile, so I think I might go with that, especially since a few people reccomended it.

Yeah, I am converting, hopefully to a 24# injector setup, but either way I am converting. It's gonna happen before the build up (H/C/I)

This cam will work with heads other than Trick Flow TWs, right? I have GT40P heads with larger than stock exhaust valves (1.54)

Yes, it will work. I had it on my stock shortblock and heads. It's a great cam.

Will the TF stage 1 cam work with the stock valve springs on a GT40P head? I need to know if I can do this without new springs. Thanks

I know you seem to be "set" on what cam you want to get, but don't jump into it too quickly. I started out the same way you are, sure that I wanted either a b or e cam. Then after hearing people say that they are outdated, I moved over to the steeda 18. People complained about that one too, telling me that it will kill a lot of my low end torque. So then I decided I wanted to go with either the tfs 1 or crane 2031. Michael Yount helped me a lot with my education in cams.

Instead of having my mind set then, I decided to do some research on cams. I called a bunch of companies and decided to go with Comp Cams. They really knew what they were talking about, and knew exactly what I wanted with my car after I explained it to them. Two different gentlemen told me to go with the xe270hr. I am not saying that the tfs won't work for you, I just want to make sure that you don't make a wrong decision and become dissapointed.

I HIGHLY suggest that you call the different companies to talk to their tech staff. They are all really helpful, and you can tell about what you should get. If they know what they are talking about, the different companies should probably give you similar specs for what you want. If that happens to be close to the tfs 1 then perhaps I would get that. If their answers are a lot different from the tfs then you will probably be dissapointed when you install it.

Chris

p.s. Sorry, but I have no idea what the gt40p valves springs are rated at.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll look into it. Any info on my springs would be helpful.

I'm curious about whether it will work with the stock springs myself... I was planning on maybe buying the ones that trickflow recomended with the cam for it but would like to stay with the stock ones cuz it would be cheaper.... Astronut: I'm running almost the exhaust same setup as you except with longtubes and an aod. Let me know how it works out for ya once you get it up and running.

Talked to my mechanic today for a while about getting a cam. I guess now I am going to go with an E303 cam. Over all it will fit my needs better, and it is emissions legal, so I can still strap my cats back on and pass the sniffer. Thanks for everything guys!

Bad advice IMO. The E-cam has a CARB number to make it emissions legal. That doesn't mean anything. Emissions testers don't know or care what cam you have in your motor.

Any of the cams mentioned in this thread will also pass emissions easily. And they'll make more power and drive better than the E.

A couple of years ago I passed the sniffer EASY with a TFS Stage 2 cam. Last year I also passed with my current FTI cam which is MUCH larger than anything you're looking at.

The E-cam has almost the exact same specs of the TFS 1 cam. The TFS cam has a little LESS duration which could make it better than the E-cam for emissions. The intake is .499 lift instead of .498 for the E-cam and the exhaust is .510 instead of .498 for the E.

Hey guys. I am probably going to add a camshaft into the mix for my build up, so I want to know which to go with. I am looking for a lower end powerband, preferably from 2000-5500rpm, and around 300 RWHP. I don't want to go to 6k rpm, as I almost never see that kind of RPM on the street. The car is a daily driver, so streetability is a major concern, and I want the idle to be fairly smooth, with a minor lope to it. My setup will be:

Stock 302 block
GT40P heads w/ 1.54" exhaust valves (stock=1.46)
Explorer (GT40) upper and lower intake w/1" phenolic spacer
1.6 ratio roller rockers
65mm TB + spacer
24# injectors and MAF conversion calibrated for 24# inj.
255 LPH fuel pump
FRPP 1 5/8" shorty headers
MAC Pro Chamber
Flowmaster 40 series mufflers
MAC cold air intake
MAC U/D pullies

I was leaning toward the E303 Ford Racing cam, and my mechanic reccomended the F303 cam. Others have said I could do better. Please give me some info on cams so I can look into my options. Thanks guys.
