1. I've been looking on summit, comp cams and so forth and i can't figure out what rockers to buy, stud or pedestal mount? 1.6 or 1.7 ratio? Isn't stock rocker ratio 1.6? If so I was thinking to stay with 1.6 and get all my lift from the cam, good idea or not? Also what brand rockers do you guys prefer?

2. Now for a cam, I really don't want to keep the E-cam anymore so when i put the new heads on i want to put a new cam and timing chain on. I can look at specs of the comp cams all day and still not know what i need. The only thing i kinda understand is duration and lift. I was thinking something with around .520-.530 lift would be good since the afr 165's come with springs good for .550 lift but that might be to much for my stock pistons I don't know. Can someone help shed some light on this subject for me please. Oh and the car see's alot of street driving so I don't want the cam to be so radical that it stalls on me or anything like that, it's not my daily driver but i do drive it alot "weather permitting".

3. Also what timing chain would you guys reccomend? I see all different types and prices anywhere from $60-500 ?

Links to parts would also be appreciated.

Thanks ahead for all the help. I'm going to be needing alot of help with this whole "Head swap" coming up. It will be my first head swap on a v8 and i will have lots of questions for you guys so please bear with me.

I bought a custom cam from Ed Curtis at FTI (www.flowtechinduction.com). I couldn't be any happier with it...performs exactly how I asked and I drive it daily and get good gas mileage for being an "aggressive cam"...24mpg once:)

On the spring issue. I would spend the extra $150 to get them upgraded but that is just me so you can run a more aggressive cam. I run ".560" lift on the intake side with (when I had stock pistons too) Probe pistons...it cleared the stock pistons too. The peak lift doesn't mean as much as duration and overlap does on cam timing to the piston.

I used a Billet Rollmaster Timing Set for $90.

I use 1.6 Scorpion Rockers...on a stud mounted head. Stud-mounted rocker/heads have to match and they are easier to adjust and stronger than pedestal mounted.

I have the AFR 165cc with the 58cc (N/A head) combustion chamber with upgraded springs, studs, and viton seal upgrade.

I got all of the above from Ed at the website I gave you...

I have a h/c/i write-up install page if you would like to see it and maybe it can give you an idea on how to better complete the project, good luck!

Thanks, Yeah I would like a link to that write up you have.

I was considering the spring upgrade but figured i would'nt need it if I had a cam with less than .550 lift. A custom cam would be nice but what kind of price are we talking for a custom grind?

Ok so i'll get the stud mounted head and get stud 1.6 rockers. Would you suggest the scorpions or would you use something different if you did it again?

Also are you using the "emission legal" heads or the "non emission" heads? I have an o/r x and no smog or egr so i guess the non emission legal heads would be right for me.?.

You can get all that stuff from Ed. I use the crane/rollmaster chain on my stroker and I believe 5spdGT does as well.

Set a goal for yourself and talk to Ed and buy whats needed to achieve/exceed that goal.

You can look under the 94-95 tech forum and go to the "Official How-to" sticky at the top of the page. It is in there:nice:

I wouldn't want to push your springs to the max or limit...I would suggest upgrading them as well, but it isn't absolutely necessary.

I don't have smog equipment either but I bought the emission legal heads so they have a bit better resale value later on and are more versatile. Ed will give you thermactor plugs to block off the smog "zones" on the heads.

I haven't had any other kind of "stud" rocker. But the scorpions have did great for me. Close to 25k and still look new:)

Price from Ed is $325 from him but well worth it in my opinion. I'm in college and tight on money and still went for it, just felt right!

He can get you everything you need, I got new lifters as well. He gave me the right pushrods, timing chain, headgaskets, etc.
