The rear of the 99-04 Saleens is where I feel the greatest difference is. I like everything about my '05 except for the rear. Everyday when I open the garage I see the back of my 05 right next to the 99 Saleen Cobra, and hands down, w/o a doubt the rear looks soooooo much better.

I wll say this though, the '05 + Saleen models don't stand out as much as they did prior to '05; you could ID a Saleen from a great distance prior to '05.

I think the best part of this thread is that we can all post opinions and everyone here takes them as such without starting a thread fight like we would probably see in another forum.

I love the 05+ rear except for the tiny oval tailpipes. It reminds me of a Plymouth 'Cuda.

My favorite is the Saleen Focus.

Just kidding. I've always been an admirer of the 99-04 models, but I think liking a car has a huge deal to do with personal life experience, and timing.

In 2000, I was working at a convention in Modesto and I saw two brand spankin new Saleens parked side by side in a tent. I think they were from Napa Ford which is a Saleen dealer. The cars were a 1999 S351 speedster and a S281 coupe. Both cars were laser red. I owned a '96 cobra vert at the time. I didn't know jack***** about Saleen at the time other than they were even more rare and more expensive than my Cobra.

That day left a major impression on me. I still think about it. I even remember the way the cars were parked. I remember thinking to myself "Now that's a real sports car."

Stuff like that effects your interpretation of the looks of a vehicle.

Likewise, when I was a kid, my dad came home one day in a brand new 1984 Vette. To this day, I remember seeing the shiny red car roll down the block.

I like the new Saleen as well, but I think it looks way more impressive in person.
There's a guy around here with a mineral grey 06 SC, I really think the car looks good. For some reason pictures just don't do the car justice.

I've pondered upgrading to the new body style several times, but I always go back to the 99-04 bodystyle. One major drawback IMO is the retro interior. I don't like it. Every American sports car is jumping on the retro bandwagon (with the exception of the Vette and the Viper) which is somewhat annoying. I do like some of the outside styling on the 05+, especially the fact the car looks great with ralley stripes (the only obvious problem is that who in their right mind would slap a set of 10 inch 3M stripes on their brand new 50k+ Saleen).

Anyways, to each his own. All of the bodystyles are unique in their own way and should be appreciated as such.

the new viper has C3 vette cue's all over it but I wouldn't call it retro. The original was inspired by cobra/cobra daytona coupe but not retro

"with the exception of" means I was not referring to the Vette and the Viper when I made the post .

But you are definitely correct, they have tightened up the Viper so it looks more Vette-like. The coupe especially looks great IMO.

One of the few things that I don't like about my 04 is that the drivers seat doesn't go back far enough to make me fell comfortable, I added rail extenders but still can't get comfortable. When I was looking at cars I drove a few 06 GT's and the leg room was much better, but the wife fell in love with Saleen body style and the rest is history.

Hey guys for some odd reason, I am feeling that the 02-04 body style saleen looks better than the 05-07. I do not know why but every time I see one it just looks different than mine..Anyone else ever feel that way...I know this is a dumb question..

of course it does lol, but dont forget about

1) build quality
2) handling/performance
3) saleen R&D (no more ford, lots more saleen [logos in and out of car])

by far, the 05+ is a much better car all the way around!

aggreed on the legroom, especially in the passenger seat of 99-04 body. Another thing i didnt like about it was the front wheel well looked too big for the wheel unless your car is black Also, just walk up to both cars and consider primarily how the front bumper is held into place. the quality difference is unreal!!! looks can be deceiving!!

My first choice would've been a Fox-body - have always loved the simplistic look / nature of the car...

However, when I was in the market, the wife and daughters all 3 really pushed for the 99-04 styling. A non-carnut co-worker even referred to it as "sex on wheels". That's all I needed to hear!

The 05-up has never done too much for me personally, althought the PJ edition really sparks my interest - too many years in vintage Mustangs, I guess!

Bob is your light bar part of the top or fixed to the body of the car?

His is fixed in place and taller than yours. yours is trickle breeding from the SA-20. It had the same set up you have which looks slick but is a bitch to see out of.
