I wouldn't say color doesn't matter AT ALL. You wouldn't catch me dead in the driver's seat of a hot-pink or vomit-green notch, no matter how cool the rest of the car might be.
Hard to really identify colors on these monitors at work. Still looks like black, even on the close-ups - I was assuming that it was the flash discoloring the shot, or something. If I crank the contrast, it looks like a sort of deep purple - am I close?
Either way ... black gets my vote. White looks good on a factory notch with black bumpers, or pearlescent (sp?) white on a monocromatic paint scheme (like the 91-93's), but black looks great on a notch no matter what. Silver and charcoal gray are nice, too. As for yellow? Mayyyyyyybe, but only if you've got the rest of the car looking right to go with it - usually an all-black interior and some nice silver painted or polished aluminum (not chrome) rims would be a good start.
I think I've seen maybe one or two genuinely awesome notches in something other than black/white/gray/silver, but those were some expensive spray jobs in something like a Sonic Blue, and the cars had a lot of flawlessly polished underhood bling-bling to go with it. Just my view on things, though; I'm sure plenty of folks think my car looks like poo, but what the hell ... it's a $25 Rustoleum paintjob, it's lasted a year so far, and it'll be another year or so before I can afford to dump money into a half-decent spray. Paint don't make it go fast, yo.
