500rwhp would be enough to tear up a Z06 up top.
You will need over 500 whp. The Z06 stock is 505 h.p. Plus it weighs just over 3,000 lbs. So the power to weight is tough to beat. The only cars that can beat a stock Z06 cost at least twice as much. Bang for the buck the Z06 is THE BEST performance car on the market. Period. No that does not mean that you cannot modify your car and go faster for less money. But you cannot find another faster bone stock car for the $$. So if you can make over 500 whp. chances are you will be changing rear diff, transmission, suspension and brakes as well. It can be done, it has been done, it is just going to cost you. And when your done the Z06 will get better gas mileage, so even if your faster, it still beats you in other ways.
I'm talking more than the 1/4 mile. I have one that should beat a Z06 in the 1/4 as well. The ZR1s are beast at that 100mph though. I raced one in my GTO and he didn't beat me that bad. I was close with him for a 3 to 4 seconds then he was gone.
Buy a boss long block from ford...around 350hp and solid, add a good supercharger or turbo with decent boost and your in the 5 to 600 hp range, piece together a good suspension kit, and wrap it up with a rear end and tranny to handle the power and stress....... that's oversimplified, but would run you less than 30/35 grand to do if you shop around for deals or good used parts and do all the work yourself. it's all about engine and suspension tuning once the hp numbers are close....so 30 grand plus the cost of the car = vette smoker.

rumor has it that a guy around here on a stock block, stock internals, stock e7 heads *untouched* is deep DEEEEEEEEEEEP into the tens... pump gas motor too. just fabbed up a turbo kit and he was in business.. don't get me wrong, he's on his second block.. but still... he's definitely seeing some impressive numbers.

It's not going to cost anywhere near 30/35 grand, even to do it reliably. Hell, it can be done reliably for less that 10-15K with used parts and some frugal shopping.
Of course...it can also be done cheaply with a used turbo setup pushing lot's of boost and using an FMU. You can leave the reliable part out of that equation all-together though.
The fastest one I've seen has gone 10.9xs @ 129 bone stock with stock run flat tires and a 1.77 60ft. Just a little piece of info.
You guys are right about it not being too difficult to beat a stock one in a h/c/i power adder fox. With a reasonably clean fox it would probably cost you $15k. BUT, He did say even if it's cammed. No one seems to want to touch that topic

even if it's cammed a modded 5.0 with boost is gonna beat it for 1/4 of the price, with the added factor that you don't look like someone going through a midlife crisis!

So instead of 500rwhp, it will take 550+rwhp to keep up with the average "cammed" c6 zr1....which according to the link above runs a 10.901 @ 129.95 mph. Respectable? Hell yes...but FAR from unbeatable.
Stop saying ZR1, its Z06. A 550 rwhp fox is not going to smoke a C6 Z06 with a healthy cam. You guys make no sense. The guy was not talking about how it costs so much less to build a fox then buy a c6 Z the whole point is he wants to ruin a $85k car. Which I don't blame him, its nice wrecking things that you know cost way more then what you built. You would need $30k into a clean fox, including the at least $5,000 for the car. AT LEAST $5,000 for a real shortblock but chances are it would be more. Custom grind cam at least $300, good heads $1400+, intake $450+, rockers, lifters, pushrods, timing set not sure but a reasonable guess is $400 for quality parts, radiator $200+, water pump $75+, valve covers $100+, Quality turbo kit $3,000, ignition $500+, BS3, Acell 7+ etc, $1500+, chances are at least $500 in gauges, add a wideband for $300, Wheels and tires $1200+,Full suspension front and rear $2,000+, cage, torques boxes fixed up, subframe connectors Depends if you do it yourself but we'll figure around $2,000, fuel system $1,000+, harnesses $150+, $3,000 into a tranny setup atleast doesnt matter what you do, $200 driveshaft, $1200 into the rear, have the suspension setup $350+, $500 in tuning. That should all be around $27,600. Thats with a clean fox, I paid $5500 for mine and they go for more then that now, I only figured for $5000, and various other items are at least what I said, then you know you'd want new carpet fix various things in the interior as you went this far, maybe seats and the tons of other things I didn't mention that add up fast like fluids, spark plugs, belts, brakes etc. Even say $28,000 without buying pos junk parts that some A hole sells you on corral. Thats a far cry from $10-15k. It would have the potentional to do pretty much anything with these lame ass outdated 5.0's as gear banger would say.
Seriously, not only is most everything you mentioned FAR overpriced (e.g. $3000 tranny and $1200 rear end), but a lot of it is not even necessary!
