351 (get a aluminum block if you have the cheese) bore and stroke to a 408, or 427. good set of heads ported and polished to ****, hefty ass intake mani, and a custom grind cam. take weight off the front with a k member, battery move, ect. build a good suspension, and get some nice radials. buy a case of beer, look at what you have built and by that point who cares what a z06 can do. if you still dont beat it after that just juice it with a 100 shot. game over.

I'm with you all the way on pretty much everything you've said, millhouse. The reason I would shoot for higher than 550rwhp is just my own subjective assessment of what "walking" it would mean.

To me walking is 5+ cars. So we were talking walking and a cammed z06 hence the need for more then 550 rwhp.

I'm also surprised at how high and mighty some of you think the Z06 is. What kind of race is this? Are we running a lap around Laguna Seca or are we going down the quarter mile? If this is on the street then i'm not even gonna give advice because that's just plain old retarded. However..

On the road course, you'll need basically the whole Maximum Motorsports or Griggs Racing suspension catalog, plus a solid 500rwhp. That would likely get you a win on a road course considering how ridiculous some of the M+M/Griggs equipped American Iron cars can handle.

On the drag strip, like people have mentioned, 11 seconds is 11 seconds. Hell i have a friend locally who's running 11.80s on a $600 Explorer engine that has never had the heads removed!!! All it takes is a serious suspension, lots of traction and a driver who's not afraid of breaking things to win. 500hp in a Fox that'll cut 1.60 or better 60 foots is going to humiliate a stock Z06 in the quarter because it's likely gonna run high 9s to low 10s.

However, this is all assuming that the Z06 is stock. Remember that all the things you can do to make your Fox quicker, so can the Z06 guy and then all bets are off. Plus remember that the Z06 is doing it all with gearing that's engineered for a top speed of something like 190mph...swap in some 4.10s and slicks and you've got yourself an easy 10 second car, maybe faster.

The thing here is about how far the race is. On the highway (if you're dumb enough to race on the highway), you probably don't stand a chance because getting a Fox to safely go anywhere close to 190mph is likely going to take enough cash to buy yourself a new Z06.

Yes, but that is not what the "AVERAGE" z06 is running! Factory freaks work both ways....as there are stock longblock 5.0 mustangs with power adders running 10's! The best I could find, the "AVERAGE" stock z06 runs a 11.469 secs. @ 124.114 mph and the "AVERAGE" cammed z06 runs a 10.901 secs. @ 129.95 mph. I'd say dropping a good .5sec and picking up nearly 6mph from a cam swap is pretty damn good!

That's actually kinda the point I'm trying to make. You're talking about the "average" z06, maybe below average, and an above average fox. If the fox gets a pro driver and a full suspension with slicks why does the z06 get a 70 yr old man who shifts slower than my mom and runs on stock low profile street tires? Believe me I've seen the amazing things you can do in a turbo fox. I've seen all the stock longblock cars on theturboforums going high 9s. That's definitely not even close to your "average" fox though.

Edit: After just doing a quick search for ****s it looks like the average cammed z06 is making 550-570 with some approaching 600 and some as low as 540.

I’m talking about the average z06 and the average 500rwhp mustang with the factory suspension and radial tires. Again, unless the link I provided is bunk (again, it is after all a corvette website with corvette loyalist, drivers and times)….the average times are just that…the average times. For every stock z06 running high 10’s at 129mph there are budget fox’s turning mid 10’s at 135mph. Is it safe….hell no, hence the budget. It does not take a full suspension nor slicks to turn those time either. Again, you can’t take what 1% are able to run and claim those are what they run! The same has been discussed time and time again with foxbody’s. When asked what your “average” stock 87-93 5.0 mustang runs….what do you say? That exactly is my point.

As far as the definition of “walking”, I think that most would agree it’s just that. If you have the ability to pull away from them….it’s walking. Beating someone by 5+ car length’s however is far beyond just that…..that’s more of an a@@ whooping!

5+ car lengths (what is that, like 80 feet?) would normally be considered a straight up ass beating.

If you size a turbo right for your combination it will have the torque if a roots blower and the top end of a centrifugal supercharger. There are lots of turbo motors that make full boost by 3500 rpms and carry the tq curve almost all the way to redline. There is nothing like a turbo car that is built correctly. Turbos kick ass.

Not in a billion years.

..and what does it take to beat a Z06....the simplest answer (assuming we're talking strait line here). About 3,000lbs and 500hp.

When I was an announcer at firebird raceway I've seen a modded z06 run a 15 sec quarter mile......."hit the traction control button a-hole!!!"

well said since in the end our cars end up being less and less ford and more and more aftermarket anyway

I agree with NikwoaC and Strippt88. My biggest problem with the corvette is that its GM, which means its cookie-cutter brand engineering. Make one really amazing engine, and then put it in EVERYTHING. Nothing is unique.

Build up a 302 or 351 stroker, or a mod motor, with boost, and youll have him beat.

yeah sort of like ford being supercharger happy huh?

I can see this thread going 10 pages if it doesn't get locked. My comment and picture on my engine was pure joking. I was in a good mood yesterday, and just playing around. You guys all know that I love fox bodies. You've all seen my progress threads.

To beat a Z06.....chit....my friend used a STOCK STOCK STOCK 160,000 miles shortblock, HCI, blower, 14psi, race gas, 5 speed car and it laid down 520RWHP. He SMOKES just about any car.

Well about cookie cutter engineering....how many vehicles got a 302 in the 40 years it was in production??

Hell at least the Vette is its own identity...every Mustang has been based off of another Ford vehicle. They claim that the '05 was from scratch, but if you look at the Lincoln LS chassis and suspension, they're pretty much identical. If it wasn't for cookie cutter engineering, the Mustang wouldn't exist and would never have been as affordable as it has always been. Hell, with the '03-04 Cobras and GT500s, where can you get that kind of power for the price (not including dealer markups)?

Read that again...if he was on 14psi of boost, high race gas is just detonation prevention.

5 cars is about 80 feet walking ass whooping same thing who cares. You people don't listen. A full weight fox 3100-3200 lbs that is 550 rwhp is not going to "walk" by your definition a C6 Z06 with a cam. Just lock this thread. Cant believe how ignorant you people are. Just because you have a fox you think nothing can be faster. The only way you might beat it like your talking el-cheapo is turn up the boost ans scatter the block into the other lane and hope to take out grandpa in the Z.
