What do I need to switch to fox computer setup?

Don't know about the cost but ProM made a couple of kits. One was a direct pcm swap out and the other one required you to move around some of the pins in the pcm connector.

You need an ignition like a msd to make the older pcm compatable also.

If you are gonna go for a pretty serious combo of say 300 to 325rwhp then you can save some money and trouble by staying with your original pcm and working with it. A combo of that caliber is gonna need a custom tune no matter which pcm you use anyway.

well its just that these 94-95s are so finiky with aftermarket mods cam etc.

I can get a fox computer off ebay for like $100 so is that all I really need is the computer it self? then a new harness or what?

Maybe some of the guys who have done the retrofit thing will chime in and give you more details.

I really don't know any more than what I told you about the details.

I use a Tweecer to tune the pcm that came in my 95 so I really don't spend much time reading about the older pcm's.

I do know enough about them to know the act in the older Fox Stangs is mounted in the lower intake and the act in our Stangs is mounted in the intake pipe.

One of the first things that is not compatable with the retrofit pcm is after you install the older pcm it will be getting temps that are much cooler than what it is expecting which means anything the pcm tries to adjust based on act temps is gonna be all out of whack.

there are a couple of wires in the harness itself that bolts onto the computer that have to be switched and one i think that should be sodered.. but other than that - all you need is the computer itself. I wouldn't buy a used one, just find a crap one, even a speed density one, i have a couple extra around and some other guys do too, and take it to autozone, tell 'em that your 89 computer went to crap and you want a new one... brand new, like 90 bucks

you'll have to get with someone else on how and what wires to cross.. it's only 4 wires to mess with though, and not that expensive.

94-95 computers being finicky is a myth. If you spend all the time and $$ to do the swap, you end up with a stock Fox body processor - which if you end up doing a bunch of mods like a SC, injectors, etc, you'll need a chip or tuning device anyway. Get a chip or tuning device with your current computer. From 94 up Ford computers are more flexible and much better overall.

I also say to keep your current computer get the PMS especially if u are scared of the tweecer's learning curve. I paid $395 shipped for a pre 04 PMS and it has fixed EVERY driveability problem on my 95 with h/c/i. I fix the problems on one driving session since its so easy to fix. The tweecer goes deeper into the computer in terms of what it can change, but the PMS will be able to get you the same quality of tune but with less headaches and much quicker. There is basically no learning curve. Have you ever researched one? All you really do is bump fuel and timing up and down and different rpm's and load levels until u get it to run smoothly. I had a lot of stuttering and jerking down low so i added fuel and took some timing away...and in that same driving session, my car drove just as good as stock.

www.stangtuning.com is my second home now a days. They try their best to make sure you get it tuned right.

Check out anderson ford motorsports site and look at the manuals and u will see how easy it is. The 04 is $800 odd dollars but you dont NEED it....its just even easier to use than the pre 04 piece. You can upgrade to the 04 specs later with the pre04 stuff for about $260 or so.

BTW, this isnt to knock tweecers, i was torn between which one to get. I got the deal on the pre 04 PMS so i went with that. I still would like to get a tweecer to see how those work. You cant lose with either one IMO.

I would definitely invest in some tuner. I hear the swap will cost you 3/4 the cost of a tweecer. I believe PMS is more. I have no experience with pms. Tweecer is what I have and yes there is quite a learning curve. What I like about tweecer is you can change literally anything you want. The only thing you dont have a lot of control over is nitrous and a supercharger.

There is also other ancillary stuff to make an A9L or other fox puter work (fan control, etc).

I agree - from what little I know, your processors are much better/faster and you guys get better self diagnostics.

If I knew how to use a TwEECer and had the cash for one, a cobra file would be onboard and I bet I would be pretty happy.

As an aside, Can a PMS change fan on/off thresholds?
