With all these threads on synthetic oil, I was doing a bit of research on Mobil 1, Royal Purple, and Amsoil. What do you guys prefer and does anyone have experience at which one performs better and which one will keep my engine going?

I'm currently using Mobil 1 5W-30. The manual says to use 5W-20. Is there anything wrong with using a different grade than what the manufacturer recommends?

i use mobil 1 5w30 as well. the 20 weight was for gas mileage. using a 5w30 is fine. i use mobil 1 cause its easy to find and cheap at costco.

So taking that the "20" is for weight, does it also mean less protection for the engine when compared to "30"?
