Right now I am rebuilding my front end from a accident. I have decided to go ahead and install a cam and headers. What cam do you guys think I should get. I am looking for a higher RPM range and the loping sound. E-Cam??

Also how hard is it to install the cam? I already have my front end off. I am not worried about pulling it out or putting it back in just is there going to be alignment issues for me to deal with?

Thanks

The TFS Stage 1 cam is a good cam, good for up to around 300rwhp (with supporting mods of course). It has some nice lope to it, but it's not TOO aggressive. The Crane 2031 is good too. If you're looking for lope, just be sure to get a cam that gives .500" or more of lift w/1.6 rockers, that should give it to you. I hate to burst your bubble, but with stock heads and intake, you're not gonna be gaining any performance. The stock cam is the least restrictive piece on a 5.0. The headers aren't gonna help any either, other than sound. Good luck

I must disagree, it's the LSA that really gives the lope not lift or stock cams with 1.7s would lope like a B-303 cam. I agree with your choice of cams, but he never stated if he had to be emissions compliant (and how compliant ie jsut a visual or a sniffer test). If he has the sniffer the E-303 or an e-legal custom cam is really the only thing left. You were also right about an aftermarket cam with stock heads and intake (non worked over stock heads and intake). He could actually hurt performance with a cam, but I think a good pair of unequal length shorty headers would help him out even with stock heads etc.

My brain is fried already, and it's only 11:45. I guess I should keep my mouth shut about cams, since I really don't know a lot about them.

Question about the E-303/e-legal cams. I know you're supposed to run an emisssions legal cam, but what if you want a custom grind that will pass the chassis dyno sniffer test. Who's going to tear down your engine to look for the specs on the cam?

What exactly do you mean by alignment? Do you mean typical front end alignment that deals with tire wear? If so I'd get your car re-aligned anyway since it was in a front end accident. If you're talking about whether to install the cam straight up, advanced, or retarded I'd install the cam straight up, and while you're in there I'd put a new double roller timing chain that is adjustable. However with your list of mods I do not recommend installing an aftermarket cam until you are ready to put heads on or you could actually hurt your performance. If you're dead set on a cam do you need to be emissions legal? Do you have emissions testing, and if so is it only visual or do you have a sniffer test, is your car a daily driver? That will determine if you need to stick with the E303 cam or if you can run something better like a TFS Stage 1. Being more conservative with a cam in a DD is generally a good idea. I recommend a larger TB, an intake, and some shorty headers as good bolt ons.

If your cam passes the sniffer they really don't care if it's specifically listed as an e-legal cam unless you're in california where they check CARB numbers as well, but then that may also depend on who is checking.
