I'm trying to mod a 4.6 for the first time. Although I have had a few vehicles with a 4.6, I have never tried to make them go fast. I now have a Cobra with a 32V motor. I bought an S trim vortech but I want to know what else will make good power, what gear would be best, etc. etc. From experience, does anybody know what it will take to get the car into the 11's on slicks? Can I fit a 15" rear wheel on it?

well being that i dont know much about pre 99 cobras, the 99 cobra didnt have forged internals, since u have a 96, u will def want to invest in them if u havent planned on already

assuming 96 cobras didnt come with forged internals that is, like i said im pretty sure they didnt

well I would put the blower on it. run safe boost levels for the stock interals if you don't want to spend the money on a foged bottom end. I would research the intermals but I bet there are good to 400-450hp. you won't need more than that for 11sec pass.

I would run 4.56 gears, beef up the rear end, lauch it on slicks and see where your et wise. I would think you would be there. if a blown 32v, with 4.56 gears, launghing on slicks can't run an 11 sec pass i would be shocked.

I am not sure what the 96 cobras have for rear brakes but if you own a tape measure you should be able to figure out if 15" wheels will go on there. I know they wont on the 99+ cars but they may in 96.

redline of a 4v is much higher than a 2v. with slicks you should not have the traction issues. the car would move down the 1320.

which t-56 do have by the way. .62 6th or .5 6th? with the .62 6th you may not like the cruise rpm of the 4.56 but it is a better gear for the quarter mile.

get 4.30 or 4.10's and it will really wake that car up along with a set of blower cams but they are expensive like 800 bucks with a good tune and your basic bolt ons should yield towards the 11 sec mark easily. You will also have to beef up the rear end pretty good i.e weld the torque boxes, and axle tubes

These are all good ideas. I'm trying to decide if I want 4.10's or 4.30's. The car does have a 6 speed and the rear has been up as well. The mods so far are: S trim making 12-14lbs, powerpipe, 80mm pro-M, 42lb injectors, magnaflow catback, full lenght sub frame connectors and Granatelli control arms. Will a throttle body do anything? Are headers worth getting? Vortech claims that @ 8lbs of boost the kit that I have will make 442hp on a stock Cobra. If what you guys are saying is true then I am already close to where I need to be.

I know exhaust is a big deal on a 5.0 but I'm not sure that I need it. I guess that's the last piece of the puzzle. Thanks for the responses. It helps.

96 Cobra go fast list:

4.30's
31-spline axles
Eaton posi
You already have the SC...so put it on.

That's it. A friend of mine was running a 98 Cobra with S trim...no cooler making 450rwhp. It was quick.
