E3S and E6S are TFI modules from an 1983 and 1986 TBird. I’m unaware of an automatic verses manual part differance. Sure, the PCMs are different.

There are gray and black modules:

Thread 'Black vs Grey TFI Module ???'

Oct 15, 2008
My car dies intermitenly when it is warm which is a classic bad TFI module symptom. The strange thing is that it will start right up and run for a few minutes. You don't have to wait for it to cool off.

I pulled codes and all I got was a 94,44 which are part of the smog delete and unrelated.

Here is the funny thing. The original dizzy on the car has a black Wells TFI module. I just put a new motor in the car. I had a spare distributor that I used for the assembly of the new motor which I just left in it. This distributor has a grey Motorcraft TFI module.

I remember Tmoss...

Thing I have determined is the gray module is what we want to run.

The TFI modules for automatics and manual gear boxes are the same.

What is the difference between a TFI for 5.0 Mustang w/ Manual or Automatic trans if any? I have seen them listed for both types of transmissions.

I do know that A1A means that it is for manual transmission and if it ends in A2A it is for Automatic transmission.

I am currently using the OEM E6SF-12A297-A1A TFI module on my 1991 Coupe 5.0, and it runs so smooth all the way to 5500 rpm like butter...
