so i got a junkyard motor but was lookin up info and said it was a 400 the block casting number i found right above the starter are d1ae 6015 a2c the intake casting number i found was d3ae 9525 ba the heads have a 2 stamped on the corner of them any help in identifying this block would be appriciated oh and i pulled it off a ranchero if that helps the block looks like it was worked over at some point

Im not positive, but sounds like you have either a Ford 400 or a 351M on your hands. A late 70's creation of ford to replace their big blocks in most vehicles. The 351M was a destroked 400, same block, but they have C6 bellhousing patterns. Do a google search on the ford 335 series engine family and I think you will find your engine there.

heres some more in a minute

so ive concluded that this block is a 400 im going to check the stroke tomorrow to see if its a 351m or a 400 the block casting number that i searched keeps showing as a 400fmx but i know mine isnt because of bellhousing pattern ive read that these motors have a lot of torque so my plan is to freshen her up and put her in my 92 mustang if any one else can help to see if this a 351m or 400 i would appreiciate it and a list of basic mods for the engine(cam heads intake exhaust just for a start) thanks for the help
