It would seem everbody agrees that 4.10's are the way to go on a naturally aspirated 05. My question is: are they still the best choice with a supercharger? I am installing the Saleen blower on my ride when I return from Iraq in a few months. Would the 4.10's be too much or should I stick with the stock 3.55's?

I'd say stick with the 3.55's. If it isn't enough, then change them. With a positive displacement blower going in, you may have traction issues with more gear.

we have traction issues bone stock but with more power that issue grows worse with poor driving. Most power adders could use the help from sticky tires and some suspension mods.

I had installed 4:10's in the car prior to installing the blower= no traction!..What a ride, but it was just too much IMO..I went back to the 3:55's and it is much better.I may however switch to the 3:73's as I feel this would optimize the entire package perfectly

Dear Kris,

I've talked to alot of SVT Dealers and others who have supercharged, and they say that a 3.73 is as much gear as you would need with this type of power adder...

No adder = go to the 4.10

Got 3.55 = stay with them because the cost of a 3.73 install would not change performance enough to justify the $$$..

If traction is a problem, go to a widen tire...

our procharged 05s have 4.10 gears and on mt et radials we hook up fina at the track through the stock 5 spd. and the stock auto tranny. we have some suspension mods but nothing too crazy... as said before its all in how you drive it.

check out our website to see the cars. the gallery has some pics at the track... the red one is 5 spd and the grey one is auto.

p.s. dave, width of the tire is not a very important factor when choosing the right tire for your setup... tire compound is about 90% of choosing the proper tire for your application, then you can consider things like size, profile, and psi that you want to run. as far as getting a big footprint goes, thats overrated.

Dear Phil,

Thanks for the expert information regarding the aspects of the tire issue...

I never thought there was so much to learn about rubber...

Thanks, Dave

Tire height is also a matter to look at with care, picking the incorrect gear can hurt your hole shot. Taller tires need those numerically higher gears to move em.

I'd do 4.10s, I have them on my Mystic and loved it and had them on the 03. Traction will be a problem regardless... one just needs some sticky tires to combat that. If you are worried about traction that bad I'd throw 3.73s on. The ONLY way that I'd leave a stock gear in the car is if I was going with a Turbo setup.
