doing some "housecleaning" under the hood of my 87 GT and so far i have removed the A/C compressor and smog pump....i need to know what all else i can safely remove without doing serious damage to the engine or electricals...which vacuum lines/units can be done away with?...any unnecessary wiring that can go...this will be a street/strip car that will see about 75% daily driving so the vacuum for the heater is stayig but any unneeded pieces are getting removed.....any helps and/or pics is greatly appreciated :nice:

you could move the battery to the trunk and clean up that area and you can get some weight moved to the rear. some guys have removed the charcoal canistor system which is located down on the drivers side frame rail under the air box area. you could get a fuel smell afterwards though and becareful if you park it in a garage, this has been debated though(search). not sure what else alot of what is left runs the computer.

Know what does what before removing it. Remove or disable the wrong thing and the computer sets the check engine light and runs in "limp mode". Limp mode means reduced power and fuel economy.

Here's a book that will get you started with how the Ford electronic engine control or "computer" works.

Ford Fuel Injection & Electronic Engine Control 1988-1993 by James Probst :ISBN 0-8376-0301-3.

It's about $20 from Borders.com see http://www.amazon.com/ . Select boo...e to check cars, but it is still Federal law.

I second everything that jrichker has said. I dont think there is too much you can remove without a custom chip or tuner. I removed my smog pump and associated equip and constantly had codes in the KAM for the stupid Tab/Tad checkvalves. Once i got my tweecer i was able to properly disable the thermactor system and the properly delete the EGR.

Battery relocation is a good idea and cleaning up the wiring and hiding it in the fenderwells is a good way to clean up the engine bay. Good luck man
