I have a 98 Laser Red Cobra Convertible: 3.73 gears, aluminum d/s, Steeda Tri-Ax shifter, King Cobra clutch, BBK adjustable clutch quad kit, BBK cold air kit, silencer removed, iridium plugs, factory mas-air, factory throttle body, Steeda pullies, 9mm wires, Bassani s-pipe w/cats, bassani catback, racing bearings on the crank due to #5 bearing spinning a year ago, 1995 chrome cobra r's 18X9 w/275/45 rear & 245/45 front.
Oh, I know 4:10's are the best for a cobra, but this is a daily driver and I don't want to eat up gas to bad.
The car is a gorgeous looking car, it turns just about every head that it goes by - even gm f-body types. It's pretty dam quick, but it needs to be as fast as I can get it to go without supercharging.
I would like to:
1. Drop the car but what springs should I go with?
2. If I go with a 87mm pro-m mass air and a BBK Twin 62mm Throttle Body , will this really help?
3. I would love to supercharge the car, but I can't get a great hook up now, so supercharging is pointless wight now. So what all can I do to get a better grip?
4. Do you recomend the "grip in a box" kits that you see in ad's in MMFF ???
5. I want to do a set of cams so I can get that "lopey sound" I love that sound on a real muscle car. How much hp will i pick up?
6. If I do cams, $$$ wise, can I come back later and get the heads polished? Or do the cams and port and polish at the same time?
7. Lets say I get the mass air, the t/b, the cams and port and polish, and I get a dyno tune, can I atleast expect 350375 hp at the rear? or more?
MMFF current issur April 2004 has 2001 gt from Michael Bowen with 4:30 gears, exhaust andsuspension mods and he was running mid 12's.
Can I atleast expect to be in the 12's, or oven more so, low 12's with my Cobra with all that I've done to it after I get suspension mods and M/T ET drags also?
I beat camaros and t/a's sometimes, but can I expect to whip their ass pretty bad after I get all that stuff done? I want to beat them bad without supercharging.
Where I live there isnt a 1/4 mile track around that I know of, so sorry if any of my questions are dumb.
I'd like to do a shot of 50-75 NOS. the car has 80,000 miles and I'm leary of putting a bigger shot on it. I mainly want the NOS just to play with at a stop light when a ricer pulls up...lol. I'm planning on running the purge lines out of the mouth on the snake emblem on the side of the car. I already have a LED in the eye of the snake emblem. Thats a real eye catcher. People will pull up side of me and go around to the other side to see the eyes...and get tripped out - especially mustang fans......lol.
