Alright guys all I need to finish my 351w is my ignition but I only have about $250 to buy my distributor, coil and wires. What is the best setup you guys can recommend me for the little money I have left. The engine is a 351w, bored 30 over, extreme comp cam, performer intake and performer carburator. Also would you guys recommend a mechanical or vaccum advance.. Thanks guys

A rebuilt Duraspark ($55), a new Duraspark module ($50), MSD Blaster coil ($20) and a set of Taylor, or other high quality wires ($60) should do it, and if stuff breaks, parts can be had at the local AutoZoo.

PS: You could hook an MSD up in place of the stock Duraspark module if you wanted, but that's more $$ :D

I bought an Accel distributor once...just once. It was hard to adjust the mechanical advance amount (rotating plate) and rate (springs). They are in the bottom so the electronic module must come out every time.

I forgot to verify the magnetic pick-up clearance once and it rubbed enough to give me all kinds of weird ignition glitches, like the tach bouncing all over the place. ugh.

And you can't cuss enough to releive the anger of droping a screw inside and it goes under the advance plate. You have to pull the distributor to get it out. :bang:

I never could get the vacuum advance to work right with my combo. I ended up with it all tuned out. I still have the $220 POS with a burned up module. It did last four years..woo hoo :notnice:

I know it's expensive, but I got the MSD ready to run, I dropped it in and it's been running great since. :spot:

Does anyone have a picture of the HEI installed with a stock air cleaner? I am considering the same distributor for my 351C and have a shaker scoop--so modifying the shaker is NOT an option. Would love to see how it fits with a stock air cleaner and possibly a monte carlo bar (I have a curved one).
