What intake to use????

I am building a street car that MIGHT see a trip or two to the track. The intake must be able to clear a gt350 hood with an oval cobra air cleaner. I port all of my own intakes, so keep that in mind when you think about airflow. setup as follows:

completely forged 347 -ross pistons, hbeam rods, etc
CNC stage II ported TW heads

speed demon 650 carb
1.6 cobra roller rockers
ported Twisted wedge heads
XE274HR cam shaft
(should be making darn close to 500hp NA)

C4 Trans - race prepped
Reverse Manual VB
TCI 3000-3500 stall
Transbrake

Rear is a Mach I 9"
Rebuilt with auburn 3.50 gears.

Exhaust
2.5" drgas Xpipe
Hooker aerochamber muffs
2.5" polished ceramic coated tailpipes
1 3/4" primary headers


Open to suggestions. Clearance is a big concern of mine. Thanks everyone.

With that combo i'd go with a single plane, the weiand xcellerator should do fine for you. I honestly don't know about hood clearance though. Im fixing to put one on my 68' coupe with gt500 good, and ill let u know if i have any clearance issues.

i was leaning toward the weiand xcellerator - ported myself.

I will look up its height and compare it to others. I know an RPM intake fits under there, lets see where this one stacks up...literally.

FYI:

Weiand X-Celerator is .55" lower on the front of the carb flange and .62" lower on the rear of the carb flange than a performer RPM intake. The ports are also bigger

I have the Edelbrock Torker II under my GT350 hood and it fits like a glove. I also looked Weiand Stealth because of the deck height and it would give me an extra 500-RPM on the intake.

Another idea is get the HOLLEY Hi-Tek Air Cleaner PN# HLY-64280 through Summit, it will actually fit down around your carburetor. So you can about an inch to 2 inch rise on whatever intake you might want to use.

THat is a typhoon intake...its the same thing as an edelbrock RPM, they are made from the same casting. Thats for looking out though!

My RPM was the same height as my Torker 289.
The Wieand is slightly shorter.
The Torker 2 (or Torker 302) is shorter than the RPM and probably the most aggressive plenum design of all but the Victor. It is about as tall as a Performer.
The Victor JR is taller than your RPM.

That should give you an idea of your options.
The Torker 289 has a larger plenum than the Wieand, and cleaner port entrys. I am not down on the Wieand mind you, but it will require quite a bit of work where the T-289 wouldn't.
As a side note, the Torker 289 has the best "eye appeal" of any SP IMO, the runners are deep and swept nicely, the carb also mounts at a 20* angle from centered... It's a unique look.
Edit: Another thing, the T-289 has great torque and rpm power with only a port matching. Alot of folks have had bad results by going to far with modding this intake... I am not a big Edelbrock fan, but they really did their homework with this intake.
