Anybody know what the flow calibration is on a GTs stock MAF? Reason I ask is because I am gearing up to cut the bottom off the sample tube as described here http://www.corral.net/tech/powerplant/mafgut.htm and I have heard that the MAF may not be calibrated to support a full 80mm of flow.

with newer Fords, you don't calibrate the MAF, you calibrate the ECU to the voltage of the MAF. as long as the voltage doesn't read more than 5v, you can get it to work.

The MAF uses a 30 point transfer curve stored in the EEC. Each point has a voltage reference, and a KG/HR for air flow. Modifying the MAF will throw off these references at different points, and the EEC will no longer correctly calculate the a/f ratio. The stocker will flow fine up to around 400hp. So it is best not to mess with it. You are only asking for problems if you do.

mmff ( http://musclemustangfastfords.com/tech/0205mmff_boltons/ ) got a couple hp and a couple pounds tq by switching to an 80mm c&l with no mention of a tune or decrease in reliability. cant i accomplish the same thing by cutting my stock 80mm maf?

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT cut the stock maf!! By doing so, you are risking changing the airflow through the sample tube. This can lead to a dangerously lean condition and serious engine damage! If you are that worried about a better maf, get an SCTBA2400 and dyno tune. This is not required unless you are going forced induction and peg your stock maf. You will not see any improvement on your N/A setup by cutting the maf.

there are easier ways to get free hp than gutting or cutting.....

turbonator just before the maf makes it think it is in heaven. not only do you flow more cfm, it recalibrates the maf also. try it before you listen to any of these "TECH" guys. or my name isn't critical bill.

Well, as the thread starter, it sounds like you answered your own question...(don't screw around with delicate electronics).
