Does anybody know how the dashpot works on my 289 2V carb?
I have a hot idle problem and the dashpot is sold as "anti-stall dashpot" and I'm wondering if I need to replace this part. Currenty, the dash pot does not touch the throttle linkage. Idle speed seems to drecrease as the engine runs hotter.

Does the dashpot work off temperature off the engine compartment?

Thanks.

The dashpot only keeps your engine from stalling when it rapidly decelerates. It keeps the butterfly from snapping back and killing your engine, kind of like a delayed reaction. Sounds like you may have timing issues.
