This is most likely a stupid question, but what is this?

I saw on my stock 302 it had bolt through it but I'm not sure, my stock 302 is still in my stang it's hard to see the back of the block.

I feel so stupid...

I have no idea... This car will be my first Ford EFI buildup and I haven't gotten to the motor yet.

I've seen a few EFI 302s and they all had that hole plugged with a bolt. I think my late '70s 351W block has the same, I'll have to go check.

I was thinking that it might be the secondary engine ground, but I think that's on the back of the intake manifol lower. It could be coolant or egr related or a spot for some other ground.

okay thats what I thought I had to do. There is no plug for it in my plug and dowel kit. So I'll just use a bolt? or does anyone know if theres a plug for it?

I seen that on both blocks when a built my 342 and 302. Nothing goes there at all. I didn't plug mine. It goes into the hollow area between the back of the engine and the engine plate.

The 5.0 engine is used in many other applications other than the Mustangs. Perhaps this is a mounting spot for something on one of these other applications.

This is correct. I just went out and checked mine since my engine is out. Nothing goes there
