What kind of mufflers should I get

Like the topic name says, what kind of mufflers should I get. My exhaust is all stock. I am keeping it stock with the exception of some weld in mufflers and bigger exhaust tips. Now I have been trying to read up on different mufflers for a while but I still need some help. The sound I want is a semi-quiet idle, but still enough rumble when you step on it. Not too loud though. Also since the car is my daily driver I would like little to no drone. That rules flowmasters out. I was thinking Magnaflows sound like what I need but Im not sure. Is there anything quieter than Magnaflows but still retain the deep rumble when you want it? Also It seems like all the exhaust tips out there are 2.5 inch inlet, can these be made to fit our 2.25 inch pipes? Thanks

Dont worry about the pipe size so much. Any muffler shop can install the mufflers wether they are 2.25 of 3.5 inch. And tips as long as the tips are bigger or the same size as the pipes you are putting them on.

Any chambered muffler will drone. Ive had mac flowpaths and flowmaster and both drone. The only other type of muffler I had was slp's (Resonator) muffler. And with the addition of longtubes the noise inside the car was quiet under wot and idle. Whereas outside the car was a different story.

Go to mustangexhaust.com and pick your favorite sounding muffler and that should be your choice. Realisticall the performance difference is negligable(SP?) and any straight through muffler will be a little queiter inside the car as long as they arn't dumped. FWIW if you are keeping the cats, Flowmasters will probably be ok for your aplication.

Man, dont ever ask a what kind of exhaust should I get question. Only because exhaust is 100% personal opinion. What I think sounds great everyone else may think sounds horrible and vice versa. With that being said you should get BBK LTs, Dr. Gas X pipe, and Spintech Pro Streets. It sounds amazing.

Currently I have dynomax ultra flows on mine and its not too bad, but IMO it's too quiet but does have a nice tone.....other than that the car is bone stock though

Is your car running yet?

Yea....asking these questions is completely pointless. Most guys wont respond anymore and out of the ones who do, you will get a million and one different opinions. Search for exhaust clips, checkout mustangexhaust.com and also check out the site DonJohn on here made....it has a lot of clips that mustangxhaust does not.

Get one flowmaster 40 and one flowmaster 30. There will be no drone. Also, you can get any muffler and it wouldn't be too loud with the stock h-pipe. You can not put on mufflers at all and it will still be quieter than a non-catted exhaust.

Thats crazy. Have you done this? Why wouldnt the one 40 series have drone? Those 30s are expensive and are quieter than the 3 chambers(50series). Just sounds a little goofy...and would probably sound goofy on a car.

sorry... couldn't resist. Yea, check out mustangexhaust.com... you'll have a better idea about which is better sounding in your opinion.

I hate to say it, but no. Only because on top of the motor work I ended up putting a blower on it and that is what I'm messing with all the fab work right now. I'm hoping it will be done in the next few weeks.

I heard that if you put two mufflers on that have different drone frequencies, that there will be no drone. So if you put a 2 chamber on and a 1 chamber on, obviously the frequency will be different.

sure there wouldn't be specific constructive interference, but there would be two different pitches

that just doesn't sound like the best idea to me

somebody should try that...

if anybody wants to donate half of the force ii system for an hour we could try it out!

Do you have any sound clips of your car, because I have looked around and I think Dynomax is prolly what I want, its more a purring sound.

You really should reconsider some Flowmasters. When people complain about drone, they usually have an off road mid pipe and a modified engine. With your stock exhaust and stock motor drone will NOT be an issue.

If you go with an after market cam and lose your cats, then that's a different story.

And if you are really concerned, then get the 50 series Flowmasters.

I have the American Thunder cat back on my stock (for now) '94 vert, and drone is absolutely no issue at all. Plus I get plenty of good sound when I step on it.

Cams have no control over it from what i have read/experienced.

The real difference is in the delta flow mufflers and the originals. My delta flows were no problem at all with stock exhaust, off road h, and a h/c/i motor.

Huh? Cams can make a HUGH difference in exhaust sound and volume. So I don't follow you.

Regardless, I still think that the poster should reconsider Flowmasters (especially 50 series Delta Flow). Those would keep a low profile like he wants, and drone would not be an issue.

Drone gets worse with volume. On an otherwise stock car it's insignificant. Add an o/r mid pipe and suddenly you have a whole other issue. Up the volume with a cam and you have the same issue. That was all I was trying to say.
