What Octane gas does everyone run?

Ive said this so many times but ill say it again....

Unless you require higher octane (high compression, advanced timing, boost) than you are just wasting money and partly losing performance.

The idea is to run the lowest octane possible without detonation. Higher octanes are more resistant to burn. 87 is more combustable than 93+ etc. etc.

I used to run 87 all the time, never had a problem with it. But now I just need 93. I can't let it ping at 12psi.

91 here.... but its california gas.... so that makes it like.... 80something.. 2 maybe the way i see it is... running 87 is maybe 20 cents difference.... sooo..... if i get like 10 gallons thats what... 2 dollars?.... that doesnt get u much

sad part is i just paid $40 for 40 liters of gas (in canada its sold by the liter)
so bassically it cost me $3.81 for a gallon ($3.02 US dollars a gallon for gas)

Daggar and AliateX are correct - absolutely a waste of money to run more octane than you need to prevent detonation on a car without knock sensors - and that's ours.

Run as low an octane as you can. The lower the octane, the easier it ignites and the quicker it burns. And, duh, it's cheaper. Mine runs just fine with 18 degrees btdc initial timing; 34 degrees total in by 2800 rpm on 87 octane.

I run 87. I run as low octane as I need. I tried all the others and then I learned about the thermodynamics of fuel and burn rates and decided that was a waste of money.

I run 89 i only have few mods i dont think i should be running 91. I dont know though nothing is wrong with my car with the 87.

I run 91 during the fall winter and early spring, once it gets a bit warmer out I run 93 so it doesn't ping from the higher ambient temp.

I only run 93. Couple extra bucks for a piece of mind, and now with the boost, i dont want to take any chances.

All true, I tuned it on 89 and run it on the same! I also run 18 degrees of timing with no issues. Why run more octane when it wont help anything!

People tend to think you get what you pay for. Not always so. If you do your research and understand whats going on, then you'll get your money worth. Running a higher octane can also decrease HP and increase emmissions. I used to work at a gas station and it's so funny to see people request for anything other than regular 87. I just laugh at thier stupidity, not like I could argue with them you know.....anyways just understand what you are doing before you do it...

I run 93. My wife drove my car one time and put 87 in it and it ran like total crap. That will never happen again.
