What octane gas is everyone using? I had always just put 87 in my n/a 2.3, but I was curious as to whether I would see a slight increase in performance by using premium.

Do the 2.3T's boost higher with 91 or 93 octane gas? Can they even run on 87 without knocking?

Thanks :nice:

Anything under 9:5.1 use 87 oct and anything over 9:5.1 use 91-93 oct and you be ok :)

(If you run more octain on a low compression motor it will cause your gass mileage to go down since it don't burn right I believe also. I believe it takes more to burn the high octain fuel is why but don't qoute me)( now if you run low octain on a high compression motor it will detonate)

I use 87 oct in my N/A and 91-93 in my SVO. Now on a 2.3T I think its 10psi and under 87-89 and 11psi and over 91-93 oct. If you got a fuel switch and everything is hooked up like the stock boost controller on reg fuel it set the system up at no more than 10psi with less timming also. Once you flip to the preimum fuel it goes to something like 14.5 ( on SVO's ) and more timming. The timming is a difference of 3 degrees I think. I hope that helps.

I run 94 in my turbo and cheap 87 in the N/A 2.3

The Higher octane burns slower and allows the piston to reach closer to TDC before complete combustion, thus reducing or hopefully eliminating detonation.

Even in a normal aspirated engine you may need to use higher octane if you
a. raise compression
b. advance timing

i run 91 oct in my 88 na if i run 87 it acts funny and it i run 93 it bogs down

I guess your the exception to the rule :) I had a old Chevy that was the same way If I ran 87 it sucked but if I ran 89 it ran like a champ

As for the imfo NP I just hope I got that right and it helped ya out :) and for the race fuel listen to Corvax :nice:

unless you mill the heck out of that head and got the compression up to 9:7.1 or something like that. I wonder, didn't Buff mill his head that much ? I wonder what fuel he runs ?

I was wondering what kinda gas brian was using too. I would imagine with the raised compression and nitrous he's at least running 91.

Be quiet guys, my 91 might hear you. It's running 87 octane and doesn't know anybetter :nonono: As some of you know, my 91dp has been milled .060. Earlier on I had a few issues with the computer, but currently it isn't arguing with 87 octane and seems quite happy.(it better because it's getting parted out the next time it hiccups),the rear suspension mounting points are just about gone.
