i want to use an extra volume oil pan for my 302. summit has a milodon and moroso 8 qt pan, front sump. they are moroso 169.98 8 3/4" deep & milodon 179.88 10". do i need to order a new pick up tube as well or will the stock one work.? what do you guys prefer.
if you know of anywhere cheaper please let me know. The guy building my engine will be done with all the machine work on weds and is basically waiting on the oil pan.

summit is in Reno NV only 3 hrs from me, so they get the parts here in like a day and a half.

I have the 8qt Milodon on my 357W, it came with a pickup tube.

No opinion on Moroso versus Milodon, but a shallower 8qt pan sounds better to me than a deeper 8qt pan, simply for ground clearance.

I have the Cobra aluminum pan on mine and no problems in 10 years. It uses the standard pick up. Got it from Branda.

Under some conditions the welded pans can fail causing leaks.

went ahead and ordered the milodon oil pan. i checked the clearences for it and stock. stock depth is 8.25", and the new milodon is 8.75". I didn't order the oil pick up tube because i don't think that half of an inch is very drastic for change in the oil pan. UNLESS of course you guys think i should order the new pick up because 1/2" could make a drastic difference.

Get the matching pickup tube

I ordered the same oil pan and got the matching pickup tube for $35 from Summit. The pan has kick outs at the bottom, so a half inch difference in depth is multiplied by some factor. Also, you are likely running a high volume pump if you are getting the extra capacity pan, even more reason to have the right pickup tube.

I heard bad things about the fit on the cheaper eBay pans. They have the same gold finish, but the fit, alignment and sealing edges are not up to par with brand names like Milodon or Morroso. Like everything in life, you get what you pay for.
