I'm over at my grandfather's today cleaning the house out, and i realize he has a mid-70's Ford F-100 pick-up truck sitting there on blocks as a parts car. It occurred to me it might have a 9" rear-end (not sure but I figured I could look into it.) Would anyone know what size rear-end this truck probably has, and would it be suitable for a swap to a '68 coupe?

Rgr, pics would help, but I had no camera with me at the time and it's a long freakin' drive over there. (For those local to Atlanta, the house is in Lilburn, I'm in Douglasville.)

do u remember how many bolts it had on the differential cover? 6 bolts is 8 inch. 8 bolts is a 8.8 inch. and no bolts is a 9 inch. i think thats how the ford rear ends worked. anyone else disagree?

8" rears have the same # of bolts( studs and nuts actually) as a 9" the difference on a 9" is you HAVE to remove the two bottom nuts from the studs with an end wrench, the 8" can be done with a socket. Unless that F100 was a 6 cylinder truck, it's got a 9". That 74 with an 8" would have to be extemely rare, I've never seen one with an 8".
