What should I do?

I don't think I can keep the 67 because it just isn't practical while I am in college. It gets about 8 mpg and I drive around 300 miles a week for school and work. The 92 Accord I drive is about to get handed to my little bro when he gets his license, so I'll be left with the stang. I love the 67, but I need something a little more practical, but yet still able to stratify my lead foot. As it stands now, I can sell her when she gets painted and easily get enough to get a 99+ GT Mustang. I really want to get a 03 Cobra or Mach 1, but that's would at least $20K, and I'd prefer to not have a car payment. What should I do? I don't want to sell the 67, but she just isn't practical.

plop a 3.00 differential in the rear of that puppy and scoot around in your pride and joy getting 18-19 mpg, which is all a new stang is gonna get you pretty much anyhow

EDIT:

I just noticed you have a T-5, sheesh that means you got overdrive. I get 18 with a c4, with your t-5 and a 3.00 or 3.25 rear differential, you are looking at 25mpg or so.

well i figure me and 6stang7 are in pretty close the same boat, same cars, same sorta mods, both in college, and I tell ya, you cant keep the 67 and get a GT, trust me I tried. Even with working 17 hours a week, I just cant afford everything.

if gas mileage is the main concern....you should be getting alot better than 8 mpg, I was getting 18+ with 3.70's/T5/lead foot/hot 306. I drove mine all through college, and I know what you mean about wanting something practical. Tough call, I kept mine though and no regrets. See what you can do to improve fuel mileage.

8 MPG seems way low. Even the hottest mods on a 302 wouldnt justify that. Even my dad's 460 Pickup gets 10 MPG in the city. My 302 was giving 15 MPG with the 3.00 rear gear.

Why not keep the stang and get a fox body. Or a small flareside pickup with a 302. Man those flaresides done right look damn sweet.
BTW: the accord wont satisfy your lead foot any way.

Man, they will never make another 67 Stang. You should just get a beater until you get through school then get your Cobra.

haha, well, first he needs to lighten up on it if mpg do matter. First week I was here at college I hot rodded at every light. that got me 55 miles and $30 in gas hahaha.

i retired mine as a dailey driver and started with a beater 2wd toyota truck. i got about 18-22mpg / 12 gallon tank and 31" tires..... miss that lil' truck :[

i think my dailey driver explorer gets less than my stang does with an AOD

Here's MY OPINION , you are free to take it or leave it.

I would suggest selling it. Your college years are very crucial. You want to limit the amount of distractions and burdens. A classic car can only be both. If you spend more time on your studies you will get better grades, better job, and make more money. When you make more money you can afford to get another classic and do it any way you want.

I'm with gp, Distractions are BAD! My dad told me to study hard and don't chase girls, etc, and I was doing all that. Until the day I met a girl who was interested and we started going out. Uni went out the window. Then when she dumped me, uni REALLY went out the window, as nearly did my life, totally ruined about 1.5 years of uni work. So if you haven't met a girl yet, try not to.

Always put your studies first, but i recommend keep the 67. You must have an awful tune because 8mpg is waaaaaaaaaay to low for a 302 especially with a t5. I get more with a 351 Windsor and c6. I graduate at the end of the year and i have already begun to try to finish up what im doing with my car so i can start gathering money for a 66 mustang 6cyl and 3 or 4spd toploader. Those things go for dirt cheap and get good mileage. Even though ill be in california if there ever is snow all you need is a set of snow tires and the car will go just as fine. Very practical in my opinion and if you have become handy in your experience with stangs there will never be a need for a mechanic's fee. Very simple straightforward car with good mileage for cheap. That's my .02 hope it helps.

try and keep it, i am in college now and i am a soph. i know it is hard, its hard for me too with a hopped up 289 and gas prices, especially when u have to run 93....but i sont know what i would do with myself if i ever got rid of her..........she means the world to me and we have made it through the hard times and the good times, and i am sure u can too

I went through college busting my butt studing and work part time. What sucked was all my rich friends didn't have to work all they had to do was study and part.....any way back to the stang. I kind of agree with gp in that you should sell it and study but I think if you really love that car you'll be thinking about "should I have sold it" the whole time your in college. I basically didn't have the funds to get one when I was in college but now that I'm out I've basically completed a 6 to v8 coversion in about 6 months and BOY did I learn alot.

Basically keep the car and do what my buddy at work did and try to find a POS that is dependable to drive back and forth. He has a diesel pulling truck and he didn't like that gas bill either and found a 500$ escort wagon....sure the tranny doesn't want to engage until it gets warmed up but is that a problem

If the Car is paid for the cost over all would be cheaper to keep it.
Change the gear for awhile and Keep it.

I agree with the others here. the mileage seems REALLY low for some reason.

Heck my 6.0 liter V-12 Mercedes gets 11-12 in the city with a lead foot.

maybe there is something you could check on your motor to improve mileage.

I know the mileage seems low, and I feel the same way. But if you think about it, I spin 3K in 5th on the freeway, which is the vast majority of my commute is. Another problem is that when I transfer, I will be living in a dorm, which means I will not be able to do any work on it, and we all know that you are never done with a classic. I thought about the storing it, but I would have no were to store it. I can't keep it in the garage, because my mother demands on parking in there, and I can't afford to rent out a storage unit for it. I still have manual drums on the car as well with the lap belts, so I al always being nagged by my mother and the lady friends about that. Your ideas and opinions are helping though, keep them coming!

He said the [H] word!.............. but in all seriousness, i agree, you can get a beater honda for around $1000 and it will get you all the milage you need. Either that or go back to the 2.8:1 gears, that's what i have in my coupe(c4/5.0) and i get pretty good milage (for a v-8).
