I have a 89LX 302 with edelbrock 5.0 performer intake manifold, 24# injectors, 303F cam, 75mm TB, 73mmC&L MAF, aluminum drive shaft,4.10 gear, WC T5.Trying to find out where I should be time wise for 1/4 mile.

No not tire size I want to know how fast I should be running 1/4 mile. You know 12's or 13's or 14's. I dont want to know tire size.

He wasn't telling you anything, he was asking. That is important info if you want an answer. You mention what kind of driveshaft you have, but you don't mention what size tires.

With 4.10 gears you need at least a 27" tire, other wise you are going to run out of gear at the end of the track....thus effecting your time. So if you are out there running a 26" slick, you will run out of gear and cost yourself some time.

So if you want to answer the question he asked, we might be able to better answer your question.

I would say you will be in the high 13s if you are on street tires, and if you are on a 27"+ slick you should be able to hit 12.9.....depending on your driving.

He will not run out of gear at the top end... with a 26" stock height tire a 4.10 works fine. He will be just past peak power (obviousely depending on power and what he traps) which is exactly where you want to be. My dads motor with his old 4.10s went 12.10 @ 110 and wasnt hitting the limiter or running out of gear. We ended up throwing 4.30s in it and with a 27" tire the car wasnt over 6000 RPM through the lights at 112 mph!

Are you talking T5? Because two of my buddies are running 4.10 gears with their T5s and both ran out of gear with 26" slicks, they were hitting above 6k going through the traps....that's the reason I opted for 3.73s.

Yes T5 tranny. I will be getting a 373 put in later but I dont think it will be before I go to the track at least once or twice. I will be running a street tire. 245/45/17. I also picked up a nitrous kit for this. A zex dry kit. I plan to put it in before I go to the track next weekened. I figure I will run all motor a couple times first and then spray it and see how much faster it runs. The kit I got has a 75,100, and a 125 shot. I have never used nitrous before so it will definitely be a whole new experience for me.

Im talking a T5. I trapped 107-108 on 245/45/17 tires and running through the beams with 3.73s I was about 5500-5700. My dads car with a T5 and 4.10s on a 26x10.50 ET Street was going through at 110 around 5900 or so. On a 26x11.50 which is about 27" tall and 4.30s he was going through the beams at similar RPM 112 mph! Unless they are running near 115 mph a 26" tire will not touch the limiter. That and you want to be past peak power through the traps! Also the T5 verse anything wouldnt matter, your in your 1:1 gear at that point!

What else would come into play then? I am NOT trying to call you a liar or anything, I am honestly interested. I wanted to switch from 3.73s to 4.10s, but my two friends with 4.10s both had to go with taller tires. One of them has a 12.50s hatch and he had to clutch in before entering the traps with 26" tires. He was slamming into his 6k pill before the traps.....which is why he gave me his tires and went taller. My other buddy has a 12.3 car on motor and couldn't run 26" tires because he was running out of power, going through the traps at around 6500.

I run 26" slicks.....and no, I have no idea where I am RPM-wise going through the traps because I never look down at that point. I would check my datalog, but I lost everything on my laptop.

Is there any formula one can use? Say for example, I will datalog my next runs and see where I am going through the traps. If it is say, 5500....is there any formula that would let me know roughly where I would be if I had 4.10s.....again, RPM-wise?

4:10s can get you acroos the line- unless you waste 1st at the line smokin the tires, then you will be pushin the rpm up. my 85 ran a c4 ( still a 1:1 final) and had no problems. My web page shows my upgrades and my timeslip from gateway in saint louis. Hope this helps.

Well there is a formula Im sure, but I dont have it handy. I dont think your calling me a liar and with a 6000 Pill in a car trapping near 110, it might be an issue. Also the 12.3 car, depends on the mph more than the timeslip. Like stated before with my shift light at 5700-5800 I trapped 107.99 and the light came on right after I went through the beams. Figuring the trap speed is an average of the last 50 feet, and my light came on after it, my guess was I was at a good 109-110 if not more. so 5700 at 110 mph with a 245/45/17 and 3.73s. There is still 550 RPM left to play with before the rev limiter...

be interesting to see if someone has the formula!

Not to highjack but I'm trying to figure what gears I have in my car....If you were at about 110 mph in 4th gear at about 5700 rpm with a 3.73......and my car go's a little over 110 at about 5200 rpms in 4th would it be safe to say it's a 3.55 gear? This is not in the 1/4 mile tho...

EDIT** Woot well I used this thing another member posted and it said that with a 3.55 gear, at 110mph, and my 25" tall tires; I should be turning 5258 rpms in 4th gear. My aprox. guess was about 5200 so I'm sure it has a 3.55 in it...

I personally run 4.10's with a 26" tall tire and run 105-106 mph no problems it has plenty of rev left so I think it would go about 110. But thats with street tires. I think slicks would balloon more causing a higher gearing affect? correct me if Im wrong that is only a theory!

According to the site with at 106mph, with a 26" tall tire, and a 4.10 gear; you would be around 5600rpms...

My car has 25" tires, and when I hit 110 mph I thought I was at about 5200 rpms...on the site when I typed in a 3.55 gear it came out to 5248 rpms....So I know I have that gear in my car for sure.....Only thing is my car falls on it's face after that, I can see yours still ripping past 6K...

If this guy has to ask what his time will be I'de be willing to bet with his mods he'll be running low 14's, unless he is running DR's he'll prolly be putting down 2.4 60's or something rediculous like that.

Hows that F cam work with the stock heads and those injectors? Im thinking that you are going to have some problems getting low numbers out of that combo due to the fact that the stock heads cant breath all that well up where the cam and intake make power. Do you have a full exhaust? I would put this car at mid 13's on street tires and low 13's on stickies.
