what size tire for 18x9?

I might go down to les schwab this weekend and get some 18" 2000 Rs for my car. The size of the rim is 18x9. They told me i should use 245 40 18 but can i safely run a wider tire in the back? and if so what size can i fit?

I believe the largest you can put on a 9" is a 295.

I use 275/35/18 in the rear and the sidewall of the tire is just about flush with the side of the rim. My rims are 18x9.5 though.

i have a 265/35/18 18x9 up front and 18x10 in rear 295/35/18 with no problems rubbing. I just cant rotate my tires properly, so if you use different sizes you might want to keep that in mind.

I'd suggest a 275/45/18, give you the low profile look, but still funcional as an actual tire, for track, and street traction not to mention cheaper

The tire shop had good advice.

Don't go any wider than 275 if you want to corner well. If you do go with a 275, go 275/35R18. This keeps the rolling diameter close (25.5") to stock (25.6") retaining speedo and odometer accuracy. If you go with a taller tire like a 275/45 then your diameter will be 27.7", that's over 2" taller than stock meaning your speedo will read slower than you are actually going and it may hurt your acceleration as well. Even a 275/40 is taller than stock by one inch (26.6") You want to keep your rolling diameter the same as stock.

If you go wider, get a 275/35R18. Otherwise you'll be laughed at by track car snobs.

i would think a 275/45 would look rather bad.....i dont think it would have a low profile look at all....

just get some 275/35's and call it a day

I have 275/35/18 Kumho's all the way around on 18x9 wheels. They fit fine. I will go a little wider when I get my Nitto's this summer.

they are not exactly flush but they dont have a huge overhang. I think its the perfect size for a 9 inch wheel. Lets just say if my tire goes flat, the wheel will be on the tire and not on the ground. Its gives the lip a nice amount of protection but not TOO MUCH

if you want a flush fit on a 9" rim, 275 Nittos and Kumhos fit well. With other brand tires you want to go to a 255. This is the size that the '95 Cobra R came with.
