What the heck?

Just took my car down the road and now something else is wrong. After all week of fixing bug after bug, now i have another bug, or something. My car won't go passed 5,000 rpm's. Around 4500 it starts cutting out. Runs good and strong until 4500. Could this be timing related or ignition. I'd like to be shifting around 6000-6500, but now I am forced to shift at 4000. Any suggestions?

6250 is where the rev limiter is set.

Rule out the possibility of a vac leak.

Ensure TPS voltage is correct.

Close the gap on your plugs in steps of .005 to a minimum of .035 as an effort to further trouble shoot.

Post your engine combo in your signature to see if there are anyother suggestions.

car ran fine last night. I changed the injector harness out today because the old one had melted and I had some wires touching, causing it to cut out. When the car ran right yesterday i could shift at 6000. since i changed the harness today now i can only shift at 4000.

Swapping out the TFI will certianly not hurt. They're cheap to replace. If that doesn't work, my guess is that you're going to need to increase your spark intensity.

A didfferent set of plugs, new/hotter coil, or something like a multi-spark ignition system or boost-a-spark may be necessary.

I skip over the checking of all your current gear for condition because I'm reasonably sure that you've done that already. Your problems sounds very similar to one that I had not all that long ago. Boosting the voltage to the coil is what I ended up doing to solve my particualr problem.

just a heads up:

A lot of guys say the MSD 6Al boxes are troublesome. I've also read the stock distributer is as good if not better than the MSD unit. Might save you some money.

You might try cleaning the 10-pin salt and pepper shakers (black and white 10 pin connectors). Maybe the connection there isn't as solid as before. However, I would suspect if problems were to occur from that, they might do so before 4000 rpm's as well; that might not be your problem, just an idea.
