How can you tell what TKO you have? I bought one used a year ago, and didn't ask too much because i was getting it pretty cheap with the bellhousing etc. Was there a TKO before the 500/600? And how do i find out about gear ratio's etc.? It's 5 degree's (F) outside, so i didn't go and count splines, but could ya give me a rule of thumb? I"d like to know before i go and blow my T-5 this spring.

There should be a tag on it with the PN on it.

Mine's an early TKO500, still has 3550 on the tag then has I believe 4615 on it too. Mine's TKO500 with the 26-spline input shaft option.

You can look at the shifter too, go to Tremec's website for a picture of the shifter bolt pattern for a TKO500/600, it's different.

Also a 500/600 will have provisions for both electronic and gear-driven speedo's. I don't think the 3550/TKO/TKOII did.

Thanks! Very helpfull!! Did you have any problems installing it? I hear you need a different driveshaft, which i don't currently have money for, crossmember either. And actually, i need to buy a clutch as well, which is what the money is dedicated for. I"ll have to check out the numbers etc. on it, just haven't had a chance to run out in the freezing whether yet.

Well, i have a 26 spline input, AND the electronic and gear driven speedo's... i didn't see that tag anywhere, course, it IS in the back of my garage covered by a bunch of stuff at the moment, and there isn't any light over there. Kinda rebuilding my car.... at least it runs!

as far as the input shaft, you should be able to just look at it and tell immediately if it is 10 or 26 spline. mine has a tag on the passenger side near the back (pretty much right in front of the shifter) with a part number on it. it is the number that looks like TCETXXXX. on mine it is on the bottom left of the tag. if you post that number, we can tell you what tranny you have right away.

Instead of replacing the driveshaft you can run a spacer.

There were other numbers on the tag, but i had a hard time reading the ones i got. The guy painted it all blue.
still trying to figure out how the speedo works.
