The engine you have built looks absolutely awesome with all the powder coating and everything you've put into it. I say first step is to pull the engine out, flip it over, and see what is going on.

You have all the supporting engine mods done, so you just need to figure out what is going on with the short lock/rotating assembly. This may also be a sign as to way your engine likes to eat front crank seals as well and the leak at the timing cover.

Fix what you got. Maybe find another builder or confirm they made the bad call and go from there. Have the new build run on an engine dyno to get it dialed in and make sure you’re good to go

I think the scat 9000 is about the best cast crank on the market, it's what I have in my 331 as well. If you are going to be resizing rods and balancing, why not upgrade. By the time you resize, add arp hardware and balance, you are on a hundred or two away from new. My father law has used those rods in 2 different motors. A 570hp 310" seeing almost 9krpm and a 700hp 408" seeing over 7k rpms.

Fix the Windsor . Have the bottom end built by a reputable shop this time .

For what it’s worth as far as parts my buddy has stock 79 block . Stock crank , rod and piston and has been 850s at 162

Motor has been together over a decade

The rods are the problem in the engine. New aftermarket rods will serve two purposes..#1, you'll have a perfectly prepped rod that will already be balanced.
#2 you'll have a rod that is vastly superior to the stock junker..no factory 351w rod was ever forged.

You'll still have to balance the crank if you do it the right way...but you'll be done.

It'll probably cost a grand.

But you'll be miles ahead of any other scenario where you have to start from scratch.

Wow, those are cheap. Cheap gets me in trouble though. Think they’re ok?
 
The rpm rods are much better than the ones mike listed. Better material and beefer. The cheaper ones are rated to 500hp according to their description. Spend the extra 200 bucks and have piece of mind. You are building a turbo 351, 700hp is just a sneeze to make.

Look,....... You put the engine together with 5 rods from one engine, and three from another, all with stock bolts and had expectations for those things to survive 600 hp.

The rods I linked are 180 degrees better than what you had,...and HP rating is relative.

If somebody rated a stock rod for power potential, how much would it be?............ 250...300 hp? Those rods are rated to 500 hp.

How many guys are running stock rods with way more than that dumped on them ya spose?

If Those rods were available for the Monster,.......they'd be in the Monster.
And they'd be 180 degrees better than what is in there.

Save the money,......use the Chinee rods.

The rpm rods are 4340, not 5140, and the rods you listed have 170k bolts. Better than stock? Sure are, but the rpms are still cheap enough to use and much better. But what do I know, my home built stuff has only been together for close to a decade without problems. ;)

Nobodies questioning your build Joe, I'm just saying when a budget build is in the mix, 400.00 for rods is over twice what a better than stock set can be had for. And when compared to stock,...they are infinitely better and as cheap as a stock, reconditioned set.
 
At this point in the game, I’m happy to pay more and get more. I’m planning on taking the long block to a local machinist and telling them to call me when it’s right and when it’s done. Done being rebuilt the right way and broke in on a dyno.

It’s gonna take longer, but I’ve spent the last 10-ish years fkn around. I’ve started to make it better as I can, time to pony up and finish it right i guess.

The hard part to swallow is that i can’t hack this myself and i have to pay to get it done. That’s always been a big point of contention. I have a hard time admitting i can’t do something.
