Im trying to decide if i should do a torque converter or headers and i'm leaning towards a converter. I plan on at least a 3,000 stall. I'm aware that the Vigilante is the best plus the abilitly to restall it, but putting down that much dough is not something i want to do.

In the new 2004 FRPP catalogue, they now offer a 2,800-3,000 stall lock up converter for the aode and suggested retail is only $350. I'm going to look into it as soon as i can if not maybe an Edge.

So what converters do you have?

thanks.

Stall converter

Did you click the www button below my post? I have PI Stallion 3400 single disk lock up. I wish I had gone w/3600 which is what everyone told me to do. I went lower because the car was a daily driver. Nearly every first time high stall buyer makes that mistake. Just remember, more stall means more haul....

GTWayne how do you like your PATC AoDE? I've been thinking of buying the stage 2 interceptor with hardened input shaft, but I can not find anyone who has purchased it to hear their opinion on the quality of their work. Thanks

I'm still running stock :( but it's not that bad for me right now.

It always seems that when you have plenty of time to get something done, you have no money. When you have plenty of money to get soemthing done, you have no time for it. Ah, such is life.

The Vigilante is Percision Industries' Chevy converter, the Ford one is called the Stallion.

And I'll tell you the same thing RC told me when I was shopping for my converter. You get what you pay for. PI has great customer service and an even better project. After my converter, shift kit, and cooler went on my car has been a totally different animal. It made a bigger difference than the gears.

for those interested in the torque converter that FRPP now offers, here is a scan from the 2004 catalogue. suggested retail is $350

this summer i plan on buying and install it.

yesturday i called frpp and asked about the converter. they said that it is a 2,800 to 3,000 stall giong for $350 and it is made by a place called auto trans inc. personally ive never herd of them, so i asked him how good of a converter they are, and he said obviously good enough for us to sell. i think that im going to go with a neal chance racing converter for $400 and get a little bigger stall.

The converter in my car now is a unit I built when I was building converters. It's a 3500 stall unit that is 10 inches in diameter. Avoid any converters that claim big stall numbers with 11 inch or 12 inch converters. Generally the 10 inch units are good to about 3800 stall(max). 9.5 units are good for 4500(max) and anything more will require a 9 inch(the industry calls it an 8 inch). I am considering going to more stall with my motor when I install it and the unit will be one of the ones found at http://www.BC-Automotive.com. The only other places I suggest are CircleD in houston they can reline a PI triple plate to be a really good unit as well.

I just installed an Edge Racing "Street Edge" convertor that stalls at a little over 2800 on my current engine.

Old thread or not, it bears mentioning that if you have Mac longtubes you'll most likely have to unbolt them to get the old tranny out and the new one in. It's a great time to change your starter out as well.
