What torque converter do you run????

AOD and AODE converters are not interchangable are they? I don't see many AODE converters anywhere.

no they are not, the aod doesn't have a 'lockup' cluth in it, just a splined hub inside that the od shaft fits into, thus the 4th 'clunk' that most aod owners experience. aode convertor has a lockup clutch that likes to glaze and needs CLEAN atf to function proplerly.

BEWARE of edge racing!!!!!
they DO NOT stand behind their 100% guarantee.
when i 1st got the converter, the slippage was 16%! andre had it for 5 weeks to fix it. after running it less than a season, it grenaded. andre said it was only the 2nd stator failure in 10 years. i talked to a drag radial racer that went thru 4 edge converters on another site i frequent, and he said his stator broke (he no longer runs edge converters, so that speaks volumes). also his friend broke two stators. do the math. that's alot more than 2 in 10 years!!! once i found this out, i told andre i wanted my money back. 3 1/2 MONTHS LATER, HE REFUSES TO GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK. it was one excuse after another.
since i've had this sig, other people have pm'd me telling me their horror stories.

I can only post about my personal experience. Andre went further than ANY online company I've done business with when a mistake came up. Never met the guy. I'm still impressed with his company. This after going through several other converters that just glittered my tranny with metal shavings or didn't stall at all. It was so bad my transmission guy didn't want to tell me where he was getting his crap-o stalls from.

I also don't have a 10sec car. :)

Just to clarify.... he fixed the problem (took a long time doing so). You heard stories over the internet, then wanted your money back?

I believe you 100%

I called Edge and talked to Andre about getting a convertor for my 347 and that @$$ hole was soo rude I hung up the phone on him. He was very condesending and elitest. I would NEVER EVER do business with that guy. But most people on here have sweet heart rentching blueberry muffin stories so I just usually stay silent about that punk.

I find it funny that a couple of years ago I asked several questions about stalls.... there were only like 3 people that posted anything about the AODE converters ANYONE sold. Everyone else was "switch to a 5-speed" "5-speed conversion" "only pansies that can't drive, drive auto cars".....

Now that I have one and don't need another... EVERYONE posts and we get to multiple pages. What the heck?

Nevermind.... took 2 years to get to a second page. Not much has changed for us poor AODE guys. HAHAHA

I figured I'd let this thread go for a while and see what else was said.
I keep seeing edge racing converters bragged about. Anybody got valid slippage information from any of them locked up at WOT? Facts are it's a stock cavalier lockup piston. It measures less then 9 inches in diameter and the cover is paper thin. The stator problem wouldn't be a problem if the lockup could hold. That would release the pressure from the stator. Some minor modifications to the stator and a strong lockup clutch really really helps these problems.

I just sent my edge stall back to Andre for a restall. I've changed my new engine setup to a stroker engine. I may bump to 3,200 - 3,400 stall as well. What the heck.... might as well start breaking the rear end. :D

yeah no ***** paul.

I also have the street edge 3000 stall converter. Got that w/ paul on the GP a few years back, so dont remember how much it was....

Hey there you are Eddie... impressive 60ft indeed. :nice:

Within a month, I should either be going faster, or the car will be broke in the attempt.
i check in once in a while to see whats going on. seems like there has been some bad news around here lately.

my car has been pretty much un-modded for the last two years. That 60' time was on stock suspension and street tires. ;) Good luck with the car. :)

I've learned a few more things during this last tranny rebuild. I couldn't figure out why the hell I kept burning up O/D when I rarely use it, and only use it on the highway.

After going through the books one of my new club sponsors (transmission shop) has. Now I know why. When you manual shift our cars it locks in the O/D band as well when changing gears. Letting it shift itself it doesn't. Which explains why it feels a bit different. He's building it up this round to hold the power. Even wants me to continue manual shifting the car.

We're taking my shift kit to the extreme this time. So hopefully I'll get a bit more power to the ground. :nice:

Oh, and that's an amazing 60ft on stock suspension and street tires. I think my best is 1.86 on D/R's and hitting the nitrous as soon as the car leaves. :D

cool. I was having issues with the p/a valvebody, so some time next week im gonna get rid of it and go back to the stocker with the jerry mods done to it. i already modded the stocker, i just have to put it on.
