ok im trying to figure out what kind of mufflers i want to put on my 73 mach1.351c 4v. i have been to web sites listing to sound clips and this what i found...
Borla sounds crackly
Flowmaster sounds good but i want something diff than everyone eles has
Magnaflow sounds real good but i havent heard them really at high Rpms??
spin tech nice sound dont know about poping after high rpm's
what does everyone eles like personally... im also considering hooker mac and dynomax but havent been able to hear them....
if this helps any i think im geting hooker headers... just need my choice in mufflers... any good combos out there.. spin tech i like but i havent heard much about them???:SNSign:

Flowmaster Delta-40's were a bit much for me -- children in my neighborhood would run away crying when I drove by. Plus that annoying 2000RPM drone made my teeth rattle. Perhaps this is a sign of advancing age, but I really like the Dynomax SuperTurbos (2.5" H-pipe exhaust on a EFI 306 in my '65) - mellower sound, no drone, and the kids aren't quite as scared...:D

yeah i want something load but not to load that you cant hear anything eles... the magnaflows sound really nice no poping or cracking when backnig off... but i dont know really how good they are cause i havent heard any on a car

Agree with RED65. I put on an x-pipe and dynomax turbos and it was pretty quiet at idle and cruise. A little different at WOT though. the x-pipe does well for knocking out the drone. Dumping the Flowmasters is a damn good start for that also.

So Flows drone even on old Mustangs! Fox bodies are notorious for the Flowmaster 2k rpm drone; I know from experience. I'm not old and hate it too, but now I'm trying to decide between side exit glasspacks with an X pipe or out the back with straight-throughs and an X. The open headers are pretty loud right now :D.

From the sound/video clips I've witnessed, Spintechs aren't bad.

Try the Flowmaster Super 40's, they are like the Delta flows but with substantially less interior drone and are noticeably quieter. They have almost no resonance and are supposed to flow even better. I put them on my car that had spin techs, and I am very pleased with the results.

:notnice: Popping or cracking??? What is this drone thing too??? My car is stripped out inside of EVERYTHING but the seats, and inst cluster, and I have NO drone whatsoever. Flowmasters sound good in my opinion, so maybe that's the reason "everyone" has them. If you have popping and cracking, maybe it's carb/timing related.:)

My car....hooker long tubes, 2.5" x pipe, to 2.5" 2 chamber flowmasters with dumps. Not good for a daily driver, but sounds wicked on my occasional driver/racecar. On the highway it doesn't drone much, but really thumps/rumbles when cruising. Lean on the throttle and it starts screaming, slightly high pitched and a little raspy, but has enough "good" sound to make it sound awesome without sounding like everyone else.

Which Hooker? the aerochambers? I am thinking of doing the aerochambers, the clip on their website sounds great.

Jasonn, do you have a sound clip? I would love to hear what your car sounds like. I am doing a 408 and was planning on going with the hooker aero chambers 3"

Would be cool to hear what it sounds like on something close to what I will be putting together.

Yea. There is 2 different ones. They have a chambered one and a glasspacked one. I bought the chambered ones. I actually have 2.5" 2 chambered flowmasters with the 2.5" flowmaster tailpipes on the mach with the 408. This thing is pretty loud, but I love it! I just wanted to try something different also and flowmasters went WAY up in price! :notnice: So that's why I went with these. I put the hookers mufflers on my 70 fastback that I just bought. http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=588782 It's tubbed and narrowed. Someday I'll put the 408 in this car. Right now it just has a fairly stock 351C. But I think it sounds real close to the flowmaster. I'm sorry I can't help you out with the sound clip. I wouldn't know the first way to try to do that. I'm kind of an internet dummy!
