just bought a 99 gt a couple days ago and i was curious, what kind of oil do you guys use during an oil change? Ive always figured all brands were pretty much the same with the exception of synthetic. Also do most of you just use regular unleaded gas?

Mobil 1 oil since it's easily available and often on sale. Motorcraft filters - cheap and effective.
Gas? 93 only due to tunes on both GTs. I try to stick with Amoco or Mobil gas.

I use Amsoil HP 5w-30 synthetic motor oil with Amsoil SDF-11 oil filter. For gas, I use Exxon or BP gasoline with Amsoil PI fuel additive at each tank. Works well for me.

Gas: 87 Octane (preferably Shell)

Oil: Mobil 1 5w20 (I have tight tolerances and always will, damn it.)

Mobil1 5w-30 w/ Motorcraft filter. Changed every 5k-6k.

I use the cheapest 87 octane I can find.

That is an interesting list of gas companies. Sad thing is the only two of them we have around here are Shell and Chevron, both of which are outrageously priced. Least where I live this is the case.

Since an oil thread is brought up again, how about we spark another debate on 5w-20 vs 5w-30. I love threads like these because it involves maintenance.
So, you guys using 5w-20, you really think you have tight tolerances? When the 4.6L was first introduced, 5w-30 was the requirement. Do you think things have changed over time?

OH DEAR GOD!!!

40thGT, I think I'm gonna have to hurt you!

Seriously though, I think 5w-30 is fine for the 4.6ltr. It offers better lubrication protection in higher rpms and hotter temperatures as compared to 5w-20. As you noted, for years Ford used 5w-30 until I believe 2001 to try to gain a bit better gas mileage and reduce EPA emissions. Other than that, I don't see any advantage to using 5w-20 over 5w-30.

Amsoil 5-20 and a Motorcraft FL820s. I'll be getting some Amsoil filters with my next order though.

87 octane form either a BP/Amaco or Mobil gas station.
