What welding rods for sub-frame connector install?

Going to be installing sfc's some time soon, I have a 220amp lincoln arc welder and was wondering what welding rods you have used or what you would recommend for the job?

Id stick with a wire welder so u dont blow any holes in your subrames!

I was thinking about using one of those hobart 125 ez welders, but I heard that the stick welder would get a stronger weld. Would that mig welder do fine.

overhead stick?

any rod is going to be a pain!

Use .030 wire not stick! All you do is stich the SFC in DONT WELD THEM SOLID!If you use stick you will want like a 7018 or 6011 and probably only a 1/8" rod.You dont need to worry about it being overhead or not rod.I dont think they make a rod as small as i stated all i ever use at work is from 1/4" clear up to a jet rod.If you fill in the radias of the SFC and the frame rails where they meet it will be plenty strong enough.They weld TQ boxes and rear anti roll bars all day with .030 wire and they hold! I dont think people relize there really isnt that much pressure on everyday cars to break welds,and the welds (if good) that you can make with .030 wire are pleanty strong!My wire at work is .035 and are machines are 440AMP machines not 120,that wire has a tencile strenth of 70,000 LBS per SQ inch!peace

I guess the mig welder route does make more sense, plus it will give me the excuse to finally buy my own.

mig or run it to a muffler shop let them do it. A drive on ramp is recommended to keep the chassis square.

Yes, make sure your suspension is loaded via drive on ramps or air jacks in various places. I MIG welded mine on 4 years ago and they have held up to the TQ of the 466 since then.

The only close muffler shop around me still uses a torch and a rod to weld but I do have 4 ramps and 4 jack stands to put the car on, I'm gonna install them in my basement/garage, it is perfectly level
