Ok this isn't a ford, but it is an older engine and i was thinking that maybe someone could tell me what i can bring my old car up to.
I have a 1978 chevy monte carlo with a 305 thats all stock. When driving normally the car is ok fast, but then when i shift my auto at around 3500rpms i hear the engine change sounds completly, it gets louder, deeper, and goes faster. I think thats because my carb actually opens barrels number 3 and 4 then, i was wondering how high i could pull her up to without a big BOOM!!!! i never knew the car had that in it. but now all i want to know is how high can i push her so i can feel the real power behind her.

ok, because i wanted to have alittle fun in it before i sell it. and i don't want to be pushing the engine to high and have something bad happen before i sell her. i have not pushed her beyond 4500 in fear of damage

The 80's monte carlo 305's were as follows (yours should be real close)

LG4(LS) tach(if present) yellow line at 4500 rpm red line 5000 rpm

L69 H.O.(SS, SC) yellow line at 5000 rpm red line at 5500 rpm

I think my car made it up to 4000 rpm maybe twice in the last 5 years, however all this really does is knock some carbon buildup out the the motor :rlaugh: rather then make power

On the other hand it is good to do every once in awhile, mine will usually let out black exaust if I hit 4k :hail2:
